Painting a frame ?
Ive tried virtually every method, and all results have been poor ,at best. Sure ,powder coating is good ,as is 2-pack paint (I expect ) but its not something you can do in an average shed ,and ,its expensive so its not an option . Acrylic paint scratches way too easy ,as does everything else . Heat paint sprays on nicely but doesn't like petrol so useless .Silver spray paint goes everywhere you don't want it to,no matter how much you mask it off . Satin back is often matt black ,and gloss black shows every blemish and weld splatter Suzuki gave you (plenty ).
Best method I have found ,is painting enamel on with a 25mm brush .
There must be a better way ???????

Spray enamel ...................or some of the accessory shops mix auto paint and put it in spray cans for you ........ the dull flat original colour type you have to put a clear coat on to bring out the colour , like most modern cars have .

Re: Painting a frame ?
Tried all that . If it has to come out of a spray can its going to be too thin as the can is 60% thinners to pass through the nozzle .At least if you mix it yourself you can spray it thicker but not thick enough .. I can get the frame looking good but buy the time i put the motor back in ,wiring ect it needs a respray . I have heard about a self levelling paint . You paint it on with a brush but know one knows anything about it in Tas . Also , I think ,expensive .
I don't think there is a good cheap way .your top coat is only as good as the paint underneath . Normally rubbish with rust spots . That means sand blasting
and the $ signs appear . Good enough might have to be "good enough" .

I'm working on a Suzuki GT380 so the frame is bloody old .If I can work out some mechanical ,and bent frame problems might be worth getting a pro job done .

I'm yet to see anyone do a professional job from a rattle can...why cause it's a rattle can, that's why. It will produce a certain finish, none of which has ever appealed to me in a finished product. It will always have pits, blemishes, orange peel...etc.
Of course I can be proven wrong, but I'm a fussy bastard with everything on a finished product. From fabrication to final finish.
I am a tradesmen, and I always look at eveything, REALLLL close, and it's easy to see what's what, with a finished piece. I'll never sugar coat anything if I'm selling something, I'll be up front and honest with anything, and price it accordingly.
If it's just a quick fix up and fuck it off type of product, then so be it.
To stop over spray, well, you have to pull the whole thing apart to try and stop it getting into every nook and cranny, plus that way you're getting a better finish, due to proper prep and application.

Re: Painting a frame ?
A guy showed me a good pro paint job on a cb750 the other day . Sure it was nice but cost $1000 just for the tank .
This one (rattle can )cost me $25 and had the satisfaction of knowing "I did it ".
