Painting stainless?
Considering painting my very shiny stainless end can, black with heat proof paint.Would like to replace it but no $
Not keen on scuffing it up first in case i don't like the look. Question is?
Will the paint stick. I'm inclined to think it wont.
Will some sort of undercoat help?
Will it scratch so easy I'll be forever respraying it.

I'm inclined to think it wont last. Probably scratch off easily especially if you dont scuff it up first.

I have had somewhat good luck in the past painting muffler with good high temp header paint, but unlike
a high temp ceramic spray on coating, foo foo can high temp paint will usually require repainting after a period of time, but you will want to sand the the can with 320 grit to give the paint a good bite.
I do my own powder coating now, and I have some special high temp satin black powder that is good for up to 1200 sustained degrees and is much more durable than spray can paint, so if you have access to a a place that does powder coating, I would recommend going that route over painting it with a spray can.

The exhaust is a cut down job which Ive always thought looked dodgy, so i'm thinking it 's more trouble than it worth. You know

I hope your not trying to change your oil with the engine running.
