Qld solo rego.
Hello people . I would like to use the solo registration in Qld for my 1250s Bandit. Any thoughts on shortening the seat to 500mm? Cheers Max.

I think others have put a seat cowl over the rear seat and removed the rear foot pegs .

Re: Qld solo rego.
Check the current laws.
All my bikes are now single. I've had them like this for along time.
I was lead to believe last time I enquired about doing another, that you don't have to change the seat
Now. ..don't quote me on that. This was from a bike shop though. But it would be all to easy just to ask and find out.
I'm sure it's not as strict of the old times, unless you've got current information saying otherwise.

A friend has all his bikes (7 at the last count) single seat registration. Going by him you do not have to modify any part of the bike now. Just phone up motor registry and ask them to change the registration to single seat. Apparently, it is all done over the phone and they will even reimburse you the difference pro-rata any time during the registration period. Now that all police vehicles including bikes have computers they know from your number plate if the bike is single seat registration.
Hope this helps.

Re: Qld solo rego.
Just went to QLD DOT transport and they have a form that states-
one seat - seat is less than or equal to 500mm (50cm) in length and with no pillion foot pegs.
Damn - got me hopes up then . . .

Have you spoken to a bike shop, or only main roads ?
If you haven't spoken to a bike shop, you should still ask.
If you have, well it is what it is then. Sometimes they can.....bend the rules.
I spoke to Motorcycle's R US, at Springwood, about 6 months ago, which contradicts what you've been told.
When I did mine 5yrs ago and beyond, yes I had to get dummy seats for the compliance plate.
But that was then. I never went to main roads, the shop did everything for me.

Well I am now totally confused
My previous bike, CBR650, I had the seat modified by a motor trimmer to comply with the single seat rule. He didn't shorten the seat but instead built a "big humpy backrest" out of foam so the seat was obviously only for a single person.
In March 2015 I purchased my DL650. I visited Qld TMR and filled out a modification form and had to hand write two very specific paragraphs regarding the modification. There was no requirement for an inspection although I had to remove the pillion footpegs. I should have got a copy of the form.
I just checked my registration certificate which shows seats = 1. The accompanying RACQ insurance certificate shows CTP class 12 being single seat.
I have recently done an extensive search of TMR plus other sites and I cannot find any info that supports what I have done. Am I legal? Buggered if I know so I will just keep riding.

Hi Bandit Dave . I now live in Maryborough, just down the road. I don`t think QLD Main Roads know thier own rules. All the middle aged women employed by Main Roads seen to have different ideas.

My single seat modification has been done by at least 20 people that I know.
I'm not sure of your free time but every Friday morning you will find between 30 and 40 bikes at Burrum Heads. Its been a meeting place for about the last 15+ years. Everything from sports bikes to a BSA Bantam. Most people are there between 7.00 and 10.00
You will see a majority of the bikes there have single seat rego with no seat modifications, the same as me. Go figure.
If you are looking for a good, well priced mechanic, Dave Shaw at Shawey's Workshop in Kent St will look after you.

This is why I say go to a bike shop, not main roads.
2018 is when the lastest change in laws supposedly happened....according to the bike shop I go to.

Qld solo rego.
Hello People. I got the Solo Rego done yesterday. Like mercury thru a duck! I first downloaded a vehicle modification form from QLD Transport and printed it out and fitted my rear seat cowl. Removed the rear footpegs. I drove my car down and was in and out in no time. No inspection-self inspection as ticked off on the form. No plates to drill on the frame like my old pommy bikes that i did 15+ years ago.Returned home and got in touch with my CTP insurer and will be re-reimbursed in due course.A couple of thoughts on this. 1- You could ignore the mods and get the cheaper rego but the police have computers onboard now so good luck. Police are a lot of things, but stupid ain`t one of em! Secondly- QMR are treating us like adults on this and i say well done to them.Cheers, Max

Re: Qld solo rego.
As above. No need to ruin a seat. Just take the footpegs off and don't double up.
If ya got single seat rego and carry a pillion, I'd hope they throw the book at em.
At maccas one morning , a group of us meet up for a ride and a copper was walking
around our bikes with a radio calling in our rego numbers. No worries what so ever.

Just purchased another bike, and converted to single seat rego.
Remove pegs.....that's all.
Do not chop your seat, as this is not required.
