Back on the bike
Hi All,
New guy here from the ACT. (Shout out to Kerry for pointing me in this direction)
Been off the bike for about 6 years following the birth of my daughter and have just picked up a 2011 Bandit as Christmas gift from my wife (lucky guy that I am).Previous bikes include; 1982 Z200, 1998 XJS600S Seca II, GSXR 600 in 2008, and then a Shadow/Sabre 1100.
Had the Bandit for a bit over a week and so far am loving it, it just pulls and doesn't stop!
Thinking of picking up a Staintune slip on to bring back a bit of the noise. Was just wondering if it needs a re-map just for the slip on?
Cheers,
Lynchy

Welcome Lynchy. I don't think there are too many people who would re-map just for a slip-on.

Re: Back on the bike
Welcome Lynchy , you bought the fast black one I see . Bike looks in good nick .
General rule of thumb is muffler only ; or airbox / K&N filter only no need to remap . Muffler and airbox , both done , & you probably need to look at your fueling .

Thanks Ewok, and Paul I appreciate the responses. Will go ahead and grab the slip on then.
Cheers Chook!

You will notice that the black one's paint has little speckle bits of different colours in it ( visible in the sun only ) this is just so owners of other coloured ones don't feel totally left behind

Haha - They're all great colours. I've always been partial to black though :p
Fixed up the tail a little with a DIY chop. Will cit it down further when I get a new licence plate light and indicators! Also fitted the Staintune slip on, so much lighter than the origional. Looking forward to getting out today and seeing how it sounds!

Re: Back on the bike
You won't find the staintune to be all that loud. They have a nice note that you'll hear under heavy acceleration. The good thing is you won't hear it cruising. The big killer for more sound is the cat. Take the staintune off and the bike not all that loud either. If you want more you need to change the headers.
I have staintune and airbox lid modification. Still run standard airfilter, no remapping required for that. I think if I went with aftermarket headers and K&N air filter a remap would definitely be required

Thanks mate.
It's definitely got a nicer note and a little more sound after this mornings ride to work. Overall pretty happy with it. And you're right there is very little noise at cruising speed so pretty happy with that.
I'd like to get it down to PTR one day when time/funds allow.

Welcome aboard the Bandit train or at least the loco anyway.
You'd probably want to have the suspension especially the front set up for you before chucking any more money at "performance" upgrades.

Thanks for the welcome!
Will do - at my 100 odd KG frame I will be booking it in here in Canberra soon for some suspension tweaks.
Any tips on what the common changes are?

I never did mine but would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had.
The rear needs better high speed damping that involves a new shock/spring combo but good results can be had just doing fronts (for now) and setting the sag.

A list of common mods can be found here:

2WA is right, do the suspension first (or at least after the can). You and I weigh about the same. Racetech springs (1kg/cm) and gold valves up front. Don't use oil heavier than 5 weight. It is a relatively cheap mod and worth every cent. I have an Ohlins on the rear and it is good. If the Oz $ goes up they might again become affordable.

Thanks - I'm booked in next week with the local suspension guru for an initial measure up.

I'll be sure to ask after the springs, valves and oil when it goes into the suspension guy next week.
Love the belly pan - keeping my eye out for a reasonably priced one.

Gotta admit though, I do like your gold rims!

The belly pan came from the UK - a mob called Banditmania. But last time I looked they had decided to concentrate solely on the 1200s.

It was clean (I shouldn't have date stamped the photo!). And yep, I still like those gold rims myself.
