2017 MT-09 ?
So, i've wanted an MT-09, ever since I rode one, when they first came out. It's still etched in my memory as a fantastic bike, and I came back grinning from ear to ear.
As they've been out for some time, the people have spoken, and have hi lighted certain things that needed upgrading. The suspension predominately.
It's now got an adjustable front end, and a new rear shock. It's also got a quick shifter, and tweeked mapping for the three different settings. Apparently, after talking to the sales dude the other day, he said they have softened the rain mode.
Now... the look of the new thing doesn't do it for me. It's got silly LED headlights, that after youtubing, don't seem to work (and i dislike the modern LED format of anything). Engineers have got to go a lot further to convince me. Give me a halogen with a well designed parabolic, to actually direct the beam where you need it, not these stupid LED's, that give you massive blind spots on corners, while traveling on a rural road, in the blackest of nights, and I'm not talking high beam, its the low beam that has to be sort for cornering, while an on coming car is approching , or a good HID.
The rear looks shit as well, with the number plate holder being on a seperate stanchion. The old bike looked heaps better, but lacks the new mechanical upgrades.
I'm going to test ride one in two weeks, after i finish a job out west.
Has anybody ridden the new 09?
Keen to hear opinions, although, I think it will be a great ride, just looks shit. (In my opinion)

Sounds like you have your mind made up on purchasing the earlier model and retrofitting suspension from the new model

No mate. James offered me a ride but I’m a bit funny about swapping bikes and stretching friendships if the shit hits the fan. He’s owned a few large capacity bikes. He loves the flexibility this whole package offers. Just a lot more capable and refined than the Bandit we all know and love.reddog wrote:Did you have a ride 2wa? Thoughts if so?
Send him a PM if you’re after first hand intel mate.

If the looks arnt doing it for you ,every time you open the shed door your going to be disappointed .
A bike has to "stir your soul" ,by just looking at it . Otherwise ,what the point , its not just about the ride .

Re: 2017 MT-09 ?
I've never been interested in the Tracer, just the standard MT-09.
The one thing that use to put off them, was the size of the tank. But, i've been converted.....I think.
I went to go for a ride two weeks ago, and while filling the old girl up, the unmistakable sound pulled up behind me.
I had a brief chat to the lad. He sold his kwaka 14 to buy MT-09.
He had it mapped (standard ecu played with). 127rwhp, and when i asked about economy, I watched how much he put in, it took 11.37 L, and had 270km's on the trip metre.
That's pretty good in my opinion. He did say though, when you give it stick, it's not good economy.
