"Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
First topic message reminder :
.....and when would suit?
I'm keen, would love to do a ride down their, catch up with Barry and Gus in their part of this great country.
It would be great to get enough interest from enough different locations to have a true National Meet again
Needs to be after winter, probably early summer.
For me if we could do it after Uni finishes Kaylah (Dancing Pillion) could keep my pillion seat warm again, that would be first/second week in December
I'm keen to hear (read) others ideas
EDIT
Preferences

Chook (2nd option) - No Dancing Pillion

Chook (1st option) 2up with Dancing Pillion

It'll be cosy with 2 in a single, IIRC you used up your double be allocation on PI ?madmax wrote:Chook wrote:As far as accommodation goes, is there anyone who really has a problem with sharing a room?
PM me if you don't want your reply public and I'll just post numvbers not names.
Personally I'm easy either way although if Kaylah does end up going I'd probably share with her, that could be a double though which would make 2 singles still available in effect giving us 1 extra bed in the house
I'll be sharing a room, but it wont be with any of you lot!

If it gets cold Paul I suggest you bring a Roo. Try not to bruise it this time.
That was " bound " to happen that time

Hey Gents,
Apologies for the absence, holiday, new computer & work have all conspired against me.
I'm in - if its not too late. If accomodation already booked I'll find somewhere close by.

All good, accommodation not sorted yet
Re: "Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
Is this trip still on ?
Might have to think about booking ferry and accommodation soon.

Hi BazBaz wrote:Is this trip still on ?

I was going to put a post up in the next week or 2
I'm still keen and even mentioned to Kaylah even if it ends up being just me I'll do a solo trip. We've had some financial heart ache the last three months, my other 1/2 has had to temporarily give up work to have a back operation (the gap on that didn't help either )
Good news is, her back is on the mend and I've won a 12 month backfill position at work that is shift work (just done 10 on, 4 off, and in the middle of 6 on), same base pay + penalties, I should start reaping the benefit of that next week and hopefully within a month should be able to book and pay for the ferry and start sorting out places to stay
So yep, in one form or another the trip will be on.
BTW, I'll be booking the bike and myself, if everything goes ok for Kaylah's end of year exams I'll try and get her a late ferry booking, if not, I'll try and get her a flight to Devonport or Launceston to meet us there

I just booked a trip up to Brisbane to see my mum from 20 Nov to 13 Dec, probably falls right in the middle of when you were planning the tour.
BTW, Spirit of Tas costs for return trip, 2 adults, 1 car, 1 cabin, 1 kennel was about $800.

Probably see each other at one of the Ferry terminals on our way back home
Re: "Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
I'm flexible enough with dates I could leave a few days later do the tour in the opposite direction and catch up on your end of the Isle once you're back but it would depend on what others (probably only Baza and Bryan?) that are going can do, I've taken all of December off so as long as I'm home by the 22nd or 23rd to help get ready for Xmas
Re: "Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
We'll be on the night ferry back to Tassie on 12 Dec, be home about 8am on Thu 13th if that helps with dates.
Re: "Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
I'll discuss it with Baz and Bryan
Gouing by our current plans we'd probably bump into each other in Devonport or miss by a day

Baz, Bryan and myself can all fit a slight move in dates and not effect our leave plans
New dates,
Depart Melbourne Dec 7th
Depart Tasmania Dec 16th
Travel anti clockwise instead of clockwise and still be able to catch up with Barry when he gets back

I suggest getting of the boat , THEN decide what direction . If its raining on the West Coast definitely go the OTHER direction .

I get where you're coming from but we are pre booking accommodation, will you be around for a catch up around the 10th Dec Gus?, I reckon we'd be around there and/or Hobart nights of the 10th, 11th and 12thgus wrote:I suggest getting of the boat , THEN decide what direction . The last time I was there it was 35 deg and I had to head to the highland to cool off .I love the West Coast but you have to check out the weather before heading that way .In summer when I see a couple of good days predicted ,i'm there .

No worries, If I lived there or was doing a months touring I'd probably do what you suggest but we have less than 2 weeks to squeeze as much in as possible.gus wrote:The last time I was there it was 35 deg and I had to head to the highland to cool off .I love the West Coast but you have to check out the weather before heading that way .In summer when I see a couple of good days predicted ,i'm there .
Do you think you'll be around for a catch up with at least Baz and I around 10th, 11th or 12th Dec Gus?
The day we leave Queenstown we can either
- head straight to Hobart and set up for 3 nights and do a couple of days touring out from there, 1 would include down to you if you're about
or
- head past Hobart down to your neck of the woods for a night at the end of a days ride, grab a pub room for a night and catch up with you before another day's touring around your way the up to Hobart for 2 nights
Dec Tassie tour
Sorry gents,
Dont want to mess you about but I can no longer make this - I simply don't have the leave left as my brother and his wife will be out from the UK for a visit in January and I need the leave to show them around. Next time....

Now it feels like it's getting real!!
Baz and I are booked onto the ferry, departing Melbourne 7/12/18 @ 19:30 and on the return, departing Devonport Sunday 16/12/18 @ 19:30
anyone else with the time is free to join us, I'd even take some company too/from Melbourne, I am considering doing the GOR again on the way home

@Gus
Baz and I will be doing day trips out of Hobart December 11th and 12th, would you be around one of those days if we rode down there?
Catch up for lunch, a ride before we continue?
