"Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
.....and when would suit?
I'm keen, would love to do a ride down their, catch up with Barry and Gus in their part of this great country.
It would be great to get enough interest from enough different locations to have a true National Meet again
Needs to be after winter, probably early summer.
For me if we could do it after Uni finishes Kaylah (Dancing Pillion) could keep my pillion seat warm again, that would be first/second week in December
I'm keen to hear (read) others ideas
EDIT
Preferences

Early November
Late November

Re: "Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
Tassie is one of my bucket lists.
Problem is, for me anyway, if i get the time to eventually get down there, I'd have to make it a hiking, adventure, along with fly fishing for trout, and camping..don't know if i could incorporate this with a bike tour.
It's a hard call for me, but want to..............

Do the tour, see what's on offer and plan for the other trip later............mtbeerwah wrote:Tassie is one of my bucket lists.

Totally understandable mate, it'd be great if you could do it but we all know family has to come firstpaul wrote:Too far away for me to think about (depends on Mrs paul )
BTW, I've been given a leave pass, looking forward to this, Tassie has been on my bucket list since nearly forever!!
Re: "Tour of Tassie", late 2018, who would be interested? / General Discussion
Correct. I made a promise to myself in 2001 to return to Tassie on a bike and to my shame I am yet to do it.Chook wrote:Baz wrote:I'm in

I would definitely try and make it.
This link might help identify a few good riding roads (although the site seems a bit cumbersome to use):

Just storing this here:

I'm keen. Its a trip I've always wanted to do. I'm usually chasing bushfires by Dec though.

I've started editing the initial post with everyones preferences to when a Tassie trip would suit
Ewok, mtbeerwah, what would be your preferences if you could make it to Tassie?
Baz, you seem like a definate, what time would you prefer?

I believe DEC thru MAR is their peak season and their warmest. Late spring would be good too.
So, NOV might be cheaper than DEC.
I'm flexible.
May have to book early for early DEC

If I can do the trip.....my personal preference would be...."not in peek season"Chook wrote:I've started editing the initial post with everyones preferences to when a Tassie trip would suit

But that would only be the dream time in my eye's.
In reality, anytime I could get off to go down, would be the right time.

Cheers, I guess Dec is the start of peak season for a reason, much better chance of decent weather.
Barry and Gus (+anyone else who has travelled Tasmania), we'd be looking for some local knowledge
What towns/locations are a must see?
What roads are "must ride" roads?
Which towns have good value old fashioned pub accommodation or something else suitable for a group for a night or 2?

Any time after April next year would suit me. I do have the Hema Motorcycle Atlas, which covers the supposed top riding roads in every state. But like everything else in this house at the moment it is packed in a box somewhere.Chook wrote:I've started editing the initial post with everyones preferences to when a Tassie trip would suit

Did early December last time, got soaked to the skin on the second day. Apparently Jan-Feb is the best weather?
But I'm easy, as long as it isn't Sept - October.

Disappointed last time didn't go up to Cradle Mountain, would love to include that in the trip.
Also Port Arthur, missed that as well.

I think you'd need 2, one for you and one for the Bandit
