Credit card takes a hit .
Why is it you seem to find good things when you are skint . Never mind ,I still think the $2000 was well spent . Also it was only 5 hrs drive away .
AS it came . Suzuki gsxr 1100 , 1987 slab side .Been in a shed for 6 years , unloved but not seized .New owner had powder coated wheels , bought
new disks and $400 worth of bearings and seals .THen bought 2 gsxr 750's and lost interest in this one .

Re: Credit card takes a hit .
goddamn....I've been trying to find one of these for years......
is it an import, or australian delivered?
if its aussie.....fix what has to be fixed, clean it, then reassemble..thats it. leave it original.
has it got matching engine and frame numbers?

I checked the front sprocket and noticed the nut was not a Suzuki item . No recess so the nut does not tightens onto the sprocket .
Whats 5mm play on a sprocket at 160 kph feel like ?

Re: Credit card takes a hit .
I don`t know the full clarification, but the compliance plate is the tell tale, and from what I understand, the imports, are supposed to have a mod plate as well.
Its just that, there are a lot of imports on the market, and not so many original Australian delivered, so there the ones you want, and are worth more, due to rarity.
3 months ago, I discovered an importer at Springwood Brisbane by accident. I was buying some tools, and the business opposite, was an importer, and he had a shed full of them, asking around $6500-$7500, for 1100 slabs, and a lot more for 1985 750`s, as they were the first, at where it all started with the SACS engine. But like I say, there`s plenty still out there in the world, but not so many Australian ones.
I`m not about to pay big money for an import..that fella can go stick it where the sun don`t shine.

Re: Credit card takes a hit .
After checking its not an import .So that's handy .
I might get to the stage of trying to get it to start today . I always wonder why you leave a bike in a shed for 6 years .
I don't mind if its a bit tired but would like a gearbox

the gearbox is their achilles heal.
take the clutch cover off, and the sump pan, and have a good look at whats going on.
i know they're renowned for 2nd gear slipping out of gear

Re: Credit card takes a hit .
If it's not marked as "Low Volume Import" it's Australian delivered then, if it's marked as "Low Volume Import" it would be a 2nd hand "Grey" import
Re: Credit card takes a hit .
There is something strange about this bikes history I cant seem to understand .Who buys $500 worth of pieces , gets the wheels powder coated $300(?)
buys a set of new disks $300 .
Total $1100 ,stops ,and sells the lot for $2000 with a spare shock and headers . Doesn't seem right .
Also ,after filling it with clean oil ,the starter clutch cover was leaking . The allen heads were only finger tight so some one has had it off .
I hooked up a battery and turned the key and got, NOTHING , no instruments , nothing .
Tracing the power from the battery I got as far as the ignition switch . Power going in, but none coming out .Sure enough this has also been apart and assembled the wrong way ..
Is it a case of "I'm over this piece of Jap crap" . "i'm flogging it the first idiot that walks in "

Re: Credit card takes a hit .
Fixed the switch and get instrument lights . Press start button ,nothing . Trace power to handlebar switch ,no power coming out .Pull button apart and see a poor connection . Clean and get power coming out .Press button and get a hint of turnover and then nothing . Check fuse box and notice all fuses loose.
Wiggle one and get motor to turn over with no tank fitted .Accidentally pull the fuel line off the carbs . The inlet is hidden so I have to remove the carbs again which is a right pain .

Fascinating so far Gus with obvious progress. Did it come as is in the photo or with a complete fairing?

Re: Credit card takes a hit .
Came complete but in pieces . Only thing missing was the exhaust header clamps . I managed to use some washers to pull the headers onto the head .
I had it all together last night but today had to go looking for problems and fix a bit of wiring I had wrong .
