SA / VIC get together in Edenhope VIC, RD1 May 23rd/24th

First topic message reminder :

As posted in the VIC Ride page:

I was chatting to Rayman about doing a overnighter for the SA members sometime this year, he suggested Mt Gambier, I was thinking Mid Nth of SA.
His idea of Mt Gambier got me thinking, we could do a SA / VIC get together somewhere about 1/2 way between Adelaide & Melbourne.
I've had a bit of a look and this little gem popped up, Lake Wallace Hotel Edenhope, about 390km each way, $30 a room inc continental breakfast

Would any of the VIC members be up for it a bit later in the year? Easy morning ride to Edenhope, check in, go for a ride or just relax and talk shit, head home Sunday or if you can get Monday off stay a extra night. Who knows, we might even be able to talk Paul into this one as well

Cool, as an ex Geelong boy who use to ride the Go Road every weekend, just take care between Apollo Bay and Lavers Hill. Loads of wet, slippery leaf litter on the road. The closer you get to Lavers the more mud you get from logging trucks and cattle farms too. After Lavers the road gets tight again and for a few km's you will get more leaf litter till you climb out back to the coast again. Have fun and take care!

Now you're getting away Friday, any chance you'll make it to the Naracoorte Caves MM?

If you do we're meeting in Naracoorte Saturday (11:00 IIRC, paul?) at the park in the middle of the main shopping street before heading out there.

If not, see you in Edenhope later in the day.

Depends on time. We're thinking of stopping Friday night at Peterborough. That's about 4 hours from the caves. So If we left at 8am we wouldn't get to the caves until 12.
If we decide to stay further along the GOR then we might make it.

I'll be talking to Mike tonight about it all

It doesn't worry me all that much as I have seen the caves in recent years.

I looks like we wont get wet but the mornings are going to be a bit fresh.....

Pretty much the same for Warrnambool

Looking forward to it Cal, how ironic that I have to ride near enough to the VIC border before I get to meet a ex Victorian that resides less than a hour away.

Bike's packed now to get that pesky 1/2 day of work out of the way so I can get out of here!!

That's probably my biggest fear of the weekend, 390km hungover in a helmet isn't something I really want to have to think about 

I once did Eucla to Port Wakefield like that, not pretty! And at the price that bear was over there it was an expensive ugly hang over to take 1100kms back with me.

Almost had to cancel, but looks like I'm leaving here around 10am. seeyas all soon. Oh and even though I have a camera, doesn't mean I'll get great photos lol

I hope it clears before our little ride tomorrow, it's pretty poor here at the moment.  

I managed to get away from work a bit earlier than expected, on the road before 12:30

A quick coffee stop in my old home town, Coonalpyn and made it into Bordertown just before 3:45
It was a uneventful ride but got bloody cold just after Keith, I reckon it's colder here than what it was when I went through tbe Adelaide Hills this afternoon.

I will be well rugged up for tomorrow, can't wait to get away!

It's frikkin cold here so layer up guys. I had crosswinds, headwinds, then blinding sun in my eyes, to get here, not to mention lots of semis between Nhill and kaniva. Glad to find my bed has an electric blanket, it better work!

So how is the tropical weather in Bordertown .....................10.3 there ........8.3 in Adelaide at the moment ............you would hardly need a jumper over there LOL

It wasn't much warmer than 10 @ 4:00pm

A fun weekend , thanks people.( except for riding past a motorcyclists unfortunate demise at the bottom of the free-way Saturday morning ) We didn't  get to do the cave tour , due to a power failure ...............I suspect it was my ex lying in wait in the dark in the " Bat cave "  , so had to head on to Edenhope earlier than planned & drink beer ..................It's a hard life , but someone has to do it .   While we were at Naracoorte , a bus load of pensioners pulled up , & someone who shall remain nameless suggested my ride had arrived ........tempting as it was to join them on their rape & pillage tour ( and they like to get it all done by 8 o'clock so they can get an early night ) there was no-one spare to take my bike on to Edenhope , & it wouldn't fit on the bus , so I declined the offer  ............... I trust everyone got home safely & without incident .            cheers people....... will have to do it again
