Old boots ....................
No , I'm not referring to any ex wives out there
I was looking at my Rossi P134 boots today & thinking the " new" soles I had put on a few years ago are starting to wear down & may only have a year or so left in them . It probably won't be worth resoling them again , but I have had them for around 22 years now , give or take & they are sooo comfortable . I do have another recent pair I bought ( Alpinestars Gran Torino )................I guess I will have to break them in properly now .
so the question which occurred to me was , ......................how old are " your " boots & what are they ?

Re: Old boots ....................
My first Rossi's lasted about 15 years, I could have had them re-soled but thought I'd already got my moneys worth out of them, the next pair (can't recall the brand but they were Italian) leaked when it rained and lasted less than 5 years, my "new" pair of Rossis are well over 10 years old and still have plenty of life leftpaul wrote:No , I'm not referring to any ex wives out there

I also have Alpinestars - some kind of touring boot but I can't quote the model. There is a sown on tag inside that says "Racing Ahead" but I think that's just a promo label. They are 8 years old this year and don't have too much left in them.

Re: Old boots ....................
I bought a pair of Garne boots from a local ebayer.
Near new but used when I got them, they are now about eight years old.
They are the best boots that I have owned. Gp style with ankle hinges, rear entry zipper and two cam lock buckles.
I tried to source a new pair recently, as they are starting to age, & as is usual the design has been superseded and non longer available.
I might get a few more years out of them.

My Sidis are around 8 years old. Nice looking boots, but long runs kill my big toes. They are also not very good in the rain. Might be normal next time and buy something a little more functional.

I wear, and have always worn, steel capped work boots.
Have never really really contemplated buying a dedicated riding boot.
So to answer your question, I only get ONE year out of them, because they are my work boots.

My Dririder boots are now 5 years old and still going strong. I expect to get several more years out of them.
I also have a pair of Alpinestars summer boots which I bought before last summer.

Re: Old boots ....................
My current "riding" boots are about 5yrs old and are Alpinestars Gortex touring boot. They're comphy and waterproof and allow me to tuck my Draggin/RST jeans inside them.
My commuting boots are a pair of Blue Steel lace ups and are about 10yrs old and I'll cry the day I have to ditch them. I only wear them if commuting on the bike otherwise I'm in Blunstone slip ons.
Ive had Rossi's of some description and didnt rate them much.

Re: Old boots ....................
My best pair was and is a pair of Medal Boots - Made in Melb. When I first go them, I wore them pretty much all day everyday except on weekends when I didn't ride, for 8 or 10 years. The bikes were kick start only thumpers. They replaced a pair of some unknown brand which I did the sole in starting the bikes in 2 or 3 years. I've had them over 20 years, and they are still the best Winter boots I've got.
I've bought two other pairs and worn one of them out in the sole from the kick and the the other pair - Dri-Riders are starting to come apart. They just don't make boots like that old guy on Gertrude St. did. These old boots still polish up well and apart from getting a little thin in the "shifter area," are simply the best.
I've met one other person who had a pair of Medals. He lived in his boots, and had only ever had 2 pairs. The second pair was getting pretty long in the tooth and went back to find that the guy was getting out of the business of making boots, clearing his shelves of orders and stock and of the lasts made for the boots he'd made for people. He repaired the boots after a lecture about boot maintenance, but wouldn't make him another pair. Done.
