Spyder as well as Bandit
First topic message reminder :
Does anyone know anyone who has owned one of these? Wifey and I are thinking of two-up touring, sort-of bike style.

Aww Dave you ve got a massive topbox, panniers, and space under the bonnet you wont even notice my extra pairs of undies and socks, and you know what that means more space for cameras to film you

Ewok1958 wrote:Well, due to discounts amounting to $3,500, the deed is done - I put down a deposit on a 2014 Spyder RT, new 1330cc triple motor, kitted out for touring. Hoping to pick it up from CMC next Monday. Not the top of the range model but still 'top shelf' enough for us with all that padded seating and integrated panniers.
Congrat's on your purchase, i personally prefer two wheels. Did you consider a Gold Wing ? Anyway i hope it's all you hoped it will be ?

Nope, 3 wheels was a fundamental part of the spec for this purchase. I did look at Goldwing trikes Miker but they were too expensive. Cheers.

And let wifey have a go up front. Not as nervous as at the controls of a huge Goldwing.

Re: Spyder as well as Bandit
Giz a ride. I want to drive it. Can I have a go steering it. Aww, comeon Dave. Does it go reely fast mister?. Wots the speedo go up to. It's really shiny. Giz a drive. Is your arse really that big?. Will Bev be faster than you when she's on the front seat? Will ya take me for a dink, I promise not to get ice cream on the seats or be carsick Spydersick down your back. When I'm on the back are there handrails or do I have to give you a Playboy and grab on to your manhood? Is it more comfortable on your prostate than a real motorcycle? Does it run on petrol or JetA1? Carn Dave, giz a go ,pleeeeees. My undies are smaller than JC's so surely you can take mine. When you pick it up remember not to drive ride steer fight pilot it past any Australian Capital Territory Correctional Institutions and wear a cardigan (preferably Kevlar). Can I have a go now?

Re: Spyder as well as Bandit
I know three people with them. Two of these are a couple who are getting on a bit. She finds it's a bit hard on the arms. He might still be riding a motorcycle, but they do some serious travelling and he tows a trailer and they appreciate that. No, they are not the newer models with the larger engine. The riding experience is preserved, but they use a lot of fuel between them. I've travelled with them a bit. Frankly, if it were me, i think I might be inclined to take the car, the dog and the kitchen sink. I might think otherwise if it was the only way I was going to get a ride.
The other one is a "late in life" entry to road motorcycling who had an ST1100. It was his first motorcycle beyond ag. bikes. It scared him a bit. The bike was not too big for him, but it was a bit ambitious as a motorcycling step and he was just not that comfortable on a motorcycle proper. It was a reasonable move, and his wife is happier on the Spyder than she ever was on the ST. He didn't use it to travel and frankly, it was just the wrong bike for him.
They are all happy with them. One of them had electrical gremlins which plagued him for a long time, but they finally traced it to a pinched wire. Much dealer involvement, but you know the story with intermittent faults which blow fuses, then disappear.
