Rear Wheel Bearings
Had one of the real wheel brgs collapse on my way home Thursday. Bike went wobbly over 3-4 kms, was like riding my busted dragster when I was a kid!!
Had the wife pick me up from the servo I left the bike at, and went back later with the trailer to bring it home.
A ring around on Friday came up with Mick Hones being the cheapest, then CBC. So, got to replacing all 3 brgs and 2 seals this afternoon. Easy job, and one that I'd done a few times before on other bikes I'd owned.
Now I hear you asking "how many kms had the bike done?"
.......55k.....approx......!
What's that? I should get a few more kms out of wheel brgs?
Darn right!! Ummmmm, well...... Yep..... I'm a d1ckhe@d!!
After my flat tyre/new tyre last week, there was a small spacer I neglected to install in the sprocket brg!!
I found the spacer sitting on my work bench in the exact same spot the sprocket assembly was sitting. Must've fallen out before I put the wheel back in.

Any tricks SB1250 on removing or installing the new bearings and seals? Any special tools?

Just use a big dowel and tap (firmly) the bearing out. The seals came out with a screwdriver (levered out). I used the old brg to tap the new brg in, then the dowel to knock it home. The collapsed brg needed a bit of dremel work!

Might do that !tag. But I'm only putting them in, not taking them out!

Just make sure they go in straight. There is a distinct change in sound when the bearing bottoms out. Oh, and don't forget the long spacer. It goes in BEFORE the second brg goes in!!

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings
I actually purchased a litre of 15w fork oil today! Not for the Bandit, but my other toys knee action shockers.

Hmm, I was only thinking of taking the wheels, not the rest of the bike. But without the sprocket assembly for the rear I'm a bearing short! The bearing extractor would actually be useful come to think of it as the front has bearings installed.
