Alternator bearings replaced
Just refitted the alternator after having the auto electrician replace the bearings. That sorted out the noise that had been bugging me since buying the bike 5000 km's ago, not the timing chain after all. Tip for those that may need to do the job, use a piece of hard flexible plastic to slide the alternator on when taking out & replacing. It's a tight fit & makes the insertion easier without scratching the paint off the motor.
Also of note ask the auto electrician if they have worked on a gear drive before as these guys obviously hadn't & damaged the face of the alternator whilst replacing the bearings. This altered the shape of the alternator near the 'o' ring. The refit took 2 hours rather that 20 minutes & may yet be the cause of an oil leak due to metal scoring.
There I feel better now of shared it with someone who may understand.

Alternator bearings , just where are they ?
The wire stator ,no bearings there .Rotor ,solid ,no bearings there .
Ive had those parts apart many times ( ) on my GS1000 but never saw any bearings .
What am i not getting ?

I puzzled on this until.....have a look at his avatar pic. It's a 1200 and they have a separate alternator which is different to the magneto setup on our 1250s. You'll see there's bearings in that wee beastie...
