Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
First topic message reminder :
A little birdy has told me Aldi will be having their bike range on sale on/from Sat 9 Aug.
I've commuted in an Aldi textile jacket for a year now and its a bloody ripper.
Only down side is the velcro is losing its "stick" but its been waterproof and warm and has armour in the correct places.
The rest of the range should be ok as well. I probably wouldnt trust my melon in one of their lids but they ar AS compliant.
I'll be after a new rear stand for the VTR (pads not knobs) and I'll be looking at the textile jackets again and probably a pair of gloves if they fit.
Keep an eye on your local Aldi store and grab a bargin.

Jimmy the Boy wrote:So did anyone buy anything at Aldi. I went there yesterday for some standard shopping and it had been plundered and pillaged by bikers. Not a jacket, pant, boot, glove, not even a sock. Ziltch. I wasn't after anything so it didn't matter to me, it just looked funny as the whole section was missing, even the bins they display it in.
Something however caught my attention. Push up bars. no, not bras, bars. Now I'm not join' to get down and give anyone " 20" . But they had really good grips on them that I think would be an equivalent to grip puppies. Said puppies are $30 a pair. These fake puppies are $6.99 a pair at the moment. Im gonna be a real tightass and wait till they're throwing them out for $3 and buy a few sets. Which won't be long as there are about 50 sets of them there, no one has bought them. Two minutes with a hacksaw through the bar, slide them off and hey presto. If your near an Aldi drop in and have a look and confirm for me if I'm right in thinking this may work or I'm a complete imbecile.
And he's only 44 years old and already having senior moments. It doesn't get any better either Jimmy.

Just got the cattle dog and the helmets are in again this year. No butterflies but still $70 with a spare visor.

OH DEAR....................
Clark rubber sells the gym equipment rubber tube in about 1 mtr lengths & it will fit over your existing OEM grips ; can't remember how much , but it was pretty cheap ( you will even have some left over to fill up your bra )

I know you've mentioned that before Paul but they don't have the right stuff in the Wagga version of Clarke Rubber.

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
Bloody hell, had to be quick!
I got to the local Aldi at 7:50am to be well down the waiting line. Main thing I was after was a pair of boots & jacket for my daughter. By the time I got to the bike gear, (about 1 or 2 mins after the first person) there were only 4 pair of boots left. Size 6 & 10-12. We grabbed the size 6, we're hoping to get a pair of size 7s, Zoe tried on the size 6, & they fit!
Tried on 4 different jackets, all no good, I don't know what they're thinking when they make those jackets, Zoe's hands didn't even come out the end of the sleeves of the smallest jacket she tried on! Do they think motorcyclists have extra long arms?

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
I got to my local store at 7.30 for an 8.00 opening.
I didn't realise there were so many people in God's Waiting Room that rode motorcycles.
The strategy I have learnt from previous visits is to grab one of each size and disappear to the back of the shop.
My AGV helmet (with broken visor) is a size L. I took an L and an XL to try on. The L would not fit under any circumstances so settled for the XL. Nice helmet with two visors.
My shoe size is 9. I got hold of 9, 10 and 12. The 9 and 10 were way too small and the 12 was a little large. The 11 would have fitted but none available so I missed out.
It seems that some people just buy one of each size and leave the store returning tomorrow with the unwanted sizes. Maybe a store visit tomorrow will yield a size 11 boot.

I agree with you on people just taking 1 of each! The trolleys of stuff being wheeled out was crazy.
The helmets didn't sell very well tho this morning

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
Early in the week I was after another textile jacket but my son picked up a very nice MotoDry for $149 at AMX and they have plenty apparently so I figured I'd put the extra into a proper name brand next week when I'm helmet shopping
I did buy a thermal type top for $24 and I would have bought gloves if there was any in real blokes size.
Just out of curiosity i tried on a leather jacket and a textile which was nice but the leather was way too heavy and restrictive. Might be on on a lazy cruiser. The textile was the same as the one I wear most days of the week bought in last years sales. I want something I can wear over my work jacket. MotoDry in 2XL will be fine.
There was a reasonable crowd inside my local shop and a row of metric cruisers in the carpark. Seems these old farts shop in packs too

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
Success, I got there bright and early this morning and scored myself a textile and leather jacket. They seem pretty good value for money. When you consider the RJAYS start at about 250, I picked up both for 260.
There were about 50 people lined up when the doors opened and I was surprised that it was quite civil.
The boots were the first to go followed closely by the jeans then jackets.
I had a look at the gloves and the XL was too small for my hands.

As I was at work my girlfriend managed to grab me 2 merino mid layer jumpers. I got one 2 years ago and its been great under the jacket on those cooler days
She got there at 8:15 and while waiting she was entertained by a woman going off at a guy about jumping the queue. Had no problem getting the jumpers because everyone else was looking at the jackets

It seems to be universal , every thing I buy seems to be 2 to 3 sizes bigger than I used to be ( no I haven't put on that much weight LOL ) ,even sneakers ( fat feet ????) , I think they have changed the sizing or somethingGreg62 wrote:Success, I got there bright and early this morning and scored myself a textile and leather jacket. In complete contrast to my previous posts, I went to Aldi today and there was shitloads of everything left ( except boots ) which was the only thing I was half interested in. Oh well.

Bit the same in Cooma JTB. I bought some socks, tiedowns and a bike cover.

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
My ALDI's helmet I bought on Saturday for $70 is more comfortable than the AGV it replaced which I paid $400 for.
One thing particularly noticeable is when I turn my head to the side the helmet doesn't feel like it is pulling it further, some sort of aerodynamic thingy I guess
My present thoughts are to replace it every 12 months @ $70 and always have a helmet with minimal scratches and a clean visor (the ALDI's helmet comes with two clear visors)

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
I am wearing last seasons model and have been very happy with it.
Still on the first visor.
The only thing that stopped me from buying another this year was the fact that I couldn't be bothered to change over the headset wiring.
Will definitely buy another next time around.
Great value.

Re: Aldi Bike Gear Aug 9th
I to was down at Aldi bright & early on Saturday morning and by the time the door opened there would have been about 50 people waiting to get in.
First time I've ever been to a "boxing day" type sale and couldn't help but laugh to myself at how people were racing to get there first. Scrambling to get as many items as they could. I saw one woman pushing a trolley & dragging her kid along, rushing to jackets, then loading up with as much stuff as she could. You would think it they were giving the stuff away!
Anyway, I was able to come away with a pair of socks (my second pair as they are very comfy) and a Bluetooth head set.
The headset fitted easily to my Nolan flip-up helmet & paired quickly to my mobile phone. Unfortunately, it wouldn't pair with my Aldi motorcycle GPS. Anyone got any ideas?
Haven't tried it out on the road yet but it's looking promising so far.
Anyone else get one?
