Small nail = Flat tyre Empty Small nail = Flat tyre

Well, got my first puncture on the Bandit. It was more if a slow leak with the nail poking it's polished head from my relatively new PR3. The nail didn't go straight in, but along the tread with just enough to pierce the inner. I removed the nail and used a rope style repair to get me a few more days of commute before a proper repair was    in order. Having removed the wheel and giving it a bloody good clean, my better half took it to the local Big brand dealer for a proper repair. Now this dealer took the wheel away to repair, only to return 40minutes later with the wheel and the advice of "it's still got a slow leak, maybe you"ll lose about 5 psi per day coz the hole was too big to repair successfully!!!" Oh, that's $55, and if you pay by card there's a surcharge...."

My better half paid, took the tyre n left. Now I know the nail was small, and my repair had made the hole larger, but to get the hole so large it was now "unrepairable" was blatantly incompetent. So, what do I do? Take the tyre back to the dealer and scream till I'm blue in the face until they agree to replace the tyre? Nup, put it down to another bad dealer experience, and never go back.

I jump onto Jake Wilsons site Friday morning, and order a new PR3. Guess what arrived today? Yep, Monday......that's 3 days from Friday! One brand new Pr3 nicely wrapped, delivered to my door.

Oh, and JW was significantly cheaper than anything local. I hate dealers.

Nothing worse than incompetence and you're paying them for it. Is a second opinion on the punctured tyre an option?

They should have repaired it on the inside of the tyre. grind the plug down smooth and then cover that with a vulcanised patch.  Pretty darn simple.

Pretty poor effort on the dealers behalf.
I made a backyard bead breaker and do my own tyres. You should too.
Pretty simple to do and saves lots of cash.
As stated by Hammy,  the hole should have been patched from the inside.
It would have to be a hole the size of a five cent piece to not be able to repair it.
I use bicycle tube patches with good results.

Personally,  I would take the tyre off the rim ( yourself or at tyre shop) & see what sort of repair they did.  Then front up to the dealer and politely make a scene in front of all the valued customers until you get your money back.
It's amazing the results that can be had if you make a scene.
Remember.  Be polite but firm and loud.
Stealers!  Pfft!

Gee I've had some bad ones sucessfully repaired over the years.
I'd be interested in having a look on the inside to see if they even attempted a repair  Shocked
Mushroom plugs backed up by a vulcanising patch will just about stop anything.
The only exception could be is if they felt the security of the tyre was compromised but seeing as they gave the tyre back thats probably not the case.
Repair it yourself and keep it for a spare or pass onto a less fortunate forum member could be the way to go Smile

I recently put tyres on my bandit myself, got them from Jake Wilson, after ringing dealers who wanted $50 per tyre to fit I thought I'd have a crack myself.

Wasn't too hard, but next time I'm gonna buy a mojo lever instead of using the irons. Made a home made bead breaker too. Sounds like they stuffed up, this is why I hate dealers.

I recently had the reservoir caps on my diavel replaced, only to notice 2 days later fluid everywhere, they forgot to snug up the bolts... So lucky fluid didn't go on the tank!

My better half is taking the new tyre (and the flattish old one) to the local bloke who usually swaps my tyres over anyway. He'll let me know if the dodgy repair can be salvaged or not. If it can, then I'll put the new tyre in the garage for future use, but Im not holding my breath.
I havent looked too hard to see if my flashy gold paint has been scraped off either......
Will be glad to get back in the saddle.....this tin-top commute is doing my head in!!

I pulled a roofing screw out of my PR3 last year. The roadside repair I did also made the hole huge 6-8mm. It was successfully repaired using a mushroom plug and didn't leak.

I'd say the guy doesn't know what he's doing
