Eastern Creek Track Day - June 2
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Time for another track day!
Date proposed is Monday June 2, 2014.
For those never experienced a track day before, it is open to all experience levels with 4 different riding groups. 6 x 20 minute sessions.
It is the most fun you can have on a motorcycle. Well i think so anyway.
So who is up for a Bandit track day at the mighty EC?
All in say AYE!!

I would love to.... Just too far away.
For those that haven't tried before I thoroughly recommend it. Just leave the ego at home or it can be expensive. A jacked up rear helps the Bandit immensely at track days, so if you have dog bones to raise the rear an inch you'll love it. No good for the road though.

Come on fellas. Surely more people wanna ride on the track than just us to. Now i just gotta figure out how to tag somebody to get there attention.
Come on Potato. Baz, give the bimmer a run.
Id say my bro is keen, so thats three of us. Nearly enough to fill a garage.

Just been reading about track day and it recommends draining glycol from cooling system and replace with water and inhibitor. Does anyone do this.

This, plus a bunch of lock-wiring is required for racing, but is not required for track days. Your bike will be scrutineered before you are allowed out but they are only checking for basic road-worthiness.

Re: Eastern Creek Track Day - June 2
What is the price for the day?
Is there anything specific to bring (extra tools etc)?
I'm keen but will have to see with work, let you know later date.

Cost is about $200 for the day, here are the faqs http://www.smsprd.com.au/ecrd_faq
Really, not much you need. You do go through fuel there (somthing to do with nailing it down the long straight) , I generally arrive with a half-tank plus 20 litres. The Bandit has (to me) a pretty top-heavy feel with a full tank so I run a half-tank or less. You can either remove or tape over (use masking NOT packing tape) your mirrors, and if you have a Ventura (or similar) rack fitted then remove (rather than be impaled on) it. Apart from the above, road tyres @ 30 psi front/rear and your extra large nuts for turn one.
This is the most legal fun you can have, end of story.

Re: Eastern Creek Track Day - June 2
No tools required. Ill have my work van there. so ill have all tools youll ever need, and spare fuel if anybody runs out.
I use 2 tanks of the SV. Ive done 12 track days at EC and have never had a problem getting the bike through. As long as tyres are good, brakes are good and levers spring back, then your good to ride. Ill also have a compressor if people want to play around with tyre pressures.
For those who dont know, i have a background in motorsport so im happy to help out anybody who is unsure.

Very tempted, but will have to buy leather suit as all my gear is textile. Any recommendations on suits. Prices range from $650 -$2000. I know I can rent but a $750 dep required which I take means that if I damage it somewhat I own it.

You can pick up some good 2nd hand leathers at a trackday/racing site like http://www.formula-xtreme.com.au/xtremema.nsf/Classifieds!openform or Ebay or Gumtree or hire from the track,Boatz wrote:Very tempted, but will have to buy leather suit as all my gear is textile. Definitely worth a good troll through all the sites, Boatz.
A day on the track sheds a whole new light on you and your bikes ability.
I picked up a second hand pair used twice for $300.

Hi Dekenai.
What sort of mods have you done to your Bandit to improve it for the track?
Cheers Andy.

Re: Eastern Creek Track Day - June 2
Where to start.
IMO the first problem is the soft front-end. Won’t bother with my theories about why, but the standard Bandit is set-up with soft progressive springs (around 0.7 kg/mm), so first thing would be to go to 1.0 kg/mm (1.1 kg/mm if you are 90Kg +). You will then need to recalibrate the compression and rebound damping to suit (the new spring rate). A good fork brace (such as a Holeshot) will do a lot to stiffen the RSU forks (which flex significantly).
I have done plenty of track days on Pilot Road rubber, and find they suit the bike very well, use 30/30 psi cold. You will find that track hot they will be close to 36/42.
The next area for intention is the brakes. While good enough, the stockers don’t have the power or feel to give you confidence. Here I would suggest upgrading to the Brembo RCS19 master cylinder. This will get rid of the spongy lever and give you brakes that feel like you can count on them.
Next would be crash protection. Currently, using the Giles Racing crash knobs, axle sliders and rear sets.
The above would be an excellent start and will not compromise the bike for road/touring use.

Thanks for all the advice.
Roughly how much was the front fork upgrade?
Did you buy components and fit your self or should it be done by an expert?

From memory, I got the springs and valves from the states (http://www.solomotoparts.com/index.php), and Suspension Smith (Laurie Smith) charged me $200 to install gold compression valves and to modify the rebound valves. He suggested that the gold valves were not necessary as the standard compression valves were of similar design and could be modified to suit. Suggest you contact a local suspension specialist.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
Dekenai, how was your front end with the gold valve?
I ask because Laurie did the front ends of my last two bikes. I was disappointed he closed up as I had a lot of respect for him.
For me he went with the obviously needed respring but retained the full OEM cartridge and adjusted the shim stack for 7.5 wt oil.
And are the leaky forks you still have these ones with the gold valve?
