Bandit meet 6-8 March 2015 Parkes NSW
First topic message reminder :
Ok, here's my thoughts on a Bandit meet up for 2015.
As per the topic title, Parkes is the meeting place. The time is March 6-8 2015. The Coachman Hotel/Motel is where we have booked in to stay.
I'm thinking of a 180 odd km ride on the Saturday that encompasses Manildra, Cudal, Eugowra, Forbes & back to Parkes.
JTB has also suggested a ride out to Temora as there is a aviation show on at the Temora airfield. (I hope I got that right)
Anyone interested in this?
Cheers, Kiwisteve

Re: Bandit meet 6-8 March 2015 Parkes NSW
I'm looking at different options for the return trip, I've done the Hay Plains, Mallee Hwy and the Riverland (Sturt Hwy) more times that I care to remember.
I'm thinking at the moment I might come back via Broken Hill, I'd most likely leave Parkes early afternoon on the Sunday and get a few hundred km out of the way before staying somewhere for the night then make it a easy ride to Broken Hill on the Monday and do a bit of sightseeing, I've been there a couple of times for work and my daughter has never been there.
Has anyone got any suggestions for towns to stop at, towns to avoid at all costs etc etc
What are Nyngan and Cobar like to stay? Either of them would leave a easy ride the next day with plenty of time to look around

Nyngan is a nice quiet town that doesn't seem to have any of the problems that some of the other western NSW towns have. ie: having to board up windows & the like overnight for security reasons. Not to sure where you could stay, as I stayed with a mate of mine both times I was out there. I'll ask him if he has any suggestions, & get back to you.

I know it's a long time away, but I was looking at the Oxley Hwy on the map. Looks like a good bike run. Would mean taking some boreing bits to get there though. ie, down to Port Macquarie then across. Plenty of time to decide.

Re: Bandit meet 6-8 March 2015 Parkes NSW
Trying to work something out like I still leave Tassie on the Wed night and do the central Vic trip with MM to meet up with the SA lads (& lasses) at Hay. Then leave Parkes for Canberra on Sat morning, about a 4 1/2 hr trip.
I don't think I could make it back to Parkes, and everyone would be leaving Sun morning anyway, so I'll work out on a route from Canberra back to the ferry in Melb, might do the east coast trek, I've got plenty of time.
Were we planning a Bathurst stint again for the Saturday, if so I could tag along until the turnoff halfway to Orange, not ideal but at least I'd get in the Fri night and a little of the main ride.
Have to see what I can talk Mrs B into, unfortunately her back is too crook to come on the trip, but there are a couple of grand kids in Canberra that could sweeten the deal, got to do a bit more planing than first thought........

Avoid Cobar Chook. Nyngan has a magnificent caravan park that is as neat as a pin with fantastic brand new cabins to stay in if you don't want to camp. Or you can throw your swag down there. I can't quite remember the name but I'll do some research and get back to you.Chook wrote:

How about pub rooms? Are there any pubs with accommodation that have secure off street parking? If not the Cabins might be the best option
Re: Bandit meet 6-8 March 2015 Parkes NSW
Is this the one Jimmy? It does look pretty good
http://www.nynganriverside.com.au/
for a 1 night stop over I reckon I'd just go the basic room, pretty cheap and plenty good enough for one night with just 2 of us.

Not sure about the pubs Chook. The whole of Nyngan was booked out last week and were forced to go to the caravan park and it was a blessing in disguise. Thats the one, you've got it.

I'm in fellas. If Bryan, Dave, Jim or anyone else want to make it to Wagga on the Friday morning I can take you a back way that avoids the highway for fair stretch of the way, and is also quicker.

Thanks for the offer JTB. Not sure which way we're heading but it could involve Kiandra, Talbingo, Tumut, Wagga Wagga. James and I need some BBQ time to talk through the options!

Jimmy i was thinking of going ( after discussion with Dave and Terry) up to the Bay across to braidwood, Goulburn, taralga pub for lunch, then up to Oberon, Bathurst, Orange and then parks. then on the way home go via Forbes, West Wylong, (i hear there a hot nurses at west wylong) Temora, Terry Tells me a of the aviation museum is a good spot for lunch Junee, Gundagi, tumut, cooma and home. This of course is only my thoughts and others may have some input on this route.
i avoid highways like the plague hence why both front and rear tyres wore out at 5k lets hope the pirellis last the distance

Am really hopeing all goes to plan and looking forward to getting down there and tagging along with some of you over a few days. Looks and sounds like there are plenty of good road options. I'm sure that Ewok will find one specially for me to ride on my own . I went the Gus suggestion, and purchased a pair of Bagster throw over panniers. Only $99 delivered. Fit like they were made for the Bird and look ( that's important ) great. I think that I have now got a good touring set up. Time will tell.

Re: Bandit meet 6-8 March 2015 Parkes NSW
Thats a great way of going Jim, no worries. I can show you a much better way of getting from Forbes to Temora on the way home but its going to mean you miss the hot nurses at West Wyalong. Get your map out and have a look at Forbes to Grenfell via Driftway. Grenfell to Bimbi then South through Trungley Hall to Temora. I'll be going home that way anyway so the more the merrier. Its Hwy from Temora to Junee ( only 50kms ), but the road is great between Junee and Gundagai. Cheers Jimmy.Jimcoleman wrote:Jimmy i was thinking of going ( after discussion with Dave and Terry) up to the Bay across to braidwood, Goulburn, taralga pub for lunch, then up to Oberon, Bathurst, Orange and then parks. then on the way home go via Forbes, West Wylong, (i hear there a hot nurses at west wylong) Temora, Terry Tells me a of the aviation museum is a good spot for lunch Junee, Gundagi, tumut, cooma and home.
