Secondary removal
So took the plunge. Removed the secondaries. (Kudos to the posts here)
Put her all back together and now she won't idle.
Up to about 2.5k she sounds like she is missing a cylinder.
Any thoughts?
Haven't taken for a ride as it is pi$$ing down

Make sure the IAP vacuum hose is connected. Dhulas throttle body sync thread has this picture of it

Re: Secondary removal
The IAP is okay.
Checked everything again... but still no joy.
Might take it fr a blast tomorrow, and see what happens.
Failing that, I might throw the butterflies back in and see what happens.

Re: Secondary removal
It won't be the butterflies but a hose or electrical connector. Re-check everything and remove and re-seat every connection and check the coil lead connectors too. It will be something simple

Re: Secondary removal
I agree. Won't be the butterflies. Sounds like an air leak. You will find it.

Re: Secondary removal
The coils are firmly pressed down onto the plugs aren't they? When I did a plug change today, I noticed that it is easy not to push the coils down firmly on the #2 and #3 plugs, whereas the outer ones are easy. I needed to use the socket extension bar to push the inner ones down. Did you bump them at all?

Re: Secondary removal
Not idling sounds like the IAP sensor under the tank. Did you reconnect the electrical connector to that?

Thank you to all on this forum.
Finally sorted.
It was the IAP vacuum hose on #3.
Looked like it was connected, but when pulled the throttle body back out, low and behold, here is a loose hose.
Thank you all once again.
I love this forum.

Re: Secondary removal
I had a fair idea it was IAP related as I ran into the same problem when I synced the throttle bodies.
The big question is how does it go now?

Red Dog
Amazing, I love the feel of this now. Much smoother down the lower end, and hoping it is not my imagination, but she does seem to pull a lot harder.

It's not your imagination mate. It's a great improvement over standard!
P.S. don't say it to loud though, Apparently it's bike butchery.

Re: Secondary removal
In preparation of removing the secondaries myself, I have ordered a set of JIS screwdrivers from this place in the states
item #58-0405
RJRCoolTools
Now I know it has been suggested before that you can get a #0 Phillips to do the job, I would prefer to not risk damaging the screws.
And they will come in handy for other items as well.

Re: Secondary removal
I bought the same set but they were taking a bit of time to get over here and I had the bike booked in for a dyno tune. I searched all round Canberra, none of the so called tool specialist had even heard of JIS. I ended up going to JAYCAR and bought their Electronic Set (CAT. NO. TD2026) for $20, I also grabed the pencil butane tourch (CAT. NO. TS1667) for $12. Worked perfectly in getting the screws out, no stripping or breakages.
The US set showed up a week later, they are a good set, but I didn't really need them for my butterflies - however I have heard others have had a much different experience and even with JIS's they had trouble.
Here is a close up shot of the different tips JIS on the left JAYCAR on the right:

Re: Secondary removal
Thanks Barry, as I've already paid for them I can be patient a little longer, I'm in no real hurry.
I've seen those butane torches in Super Crap so I'll be getting one of those soon.

I just did the Phillips #0 with the butane torch, really easy.
Heated up both screws in the throttle body (really well), Grabbed the back of the throttle body and pushed down very firmly with the #0 Phillips, cracked the first screw, moved to the second, after both cracked, removed them, then on the the next butterfly.
I was really worried as well. There was one point that one screw did not to play (having enough pressure on it let me feel it was not going to move with out burring it out), but reheated and all good. I think as long as you have pressure down and pushing pressure from the back of the throttle body, and have applied enough heat, you will be fine.
Just remember to put all the hoses back on (Unlike me)

Well now I want to know what the secondaries actually do?
Yes I'm happy, bike seems like it has smoother and more precise throttle response. No hesitation or surging at low speeds.
If there is a power increase I'm not noticing it.
Will they be staying out?.......... Bloody oath they will be!
