Re: 1200 km service
My 1000km service was at SCMC Lane Cove, & I'm expecting my 6000km to be at either the same or Lloyd Penn. My previous bike was at Lloyds regularly & always came back running well.
1200 service
thanks for the replies.
i've had quotes of around $500 for this 12000 service (and ($800 for the 18000 km major service) - does this sound about right?

No 24,000 is the major.
If all is well you will only need oil and filters until then.
Any dealer will still stamp the book.
I have been quoted $500 for the 24,000 service and I think I have only paid $260 for the others.
I guess it depends on the shop overheads but that sounds a bit rich.
Going exactly by the book it may be close though.
Re: 1200 km service
$800??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
what is it - a bentley? or does it take three days and they lick it clean?

12000 km service
The quotes are from Lloyd Penn Artarmon & Sydney City Motorcycles. One of these guys quoted me $350 a month ago..........
Apart from throttle valve synchronisation the 12000 service just looks like a general check of bike plus change oil/oil filter and spark plugs. Am thinking of doing it myself (except throttle synchronisation) - the bike is near the end of its two year warrantly. Any further advice? I don't mind spending $$$$ on a major service at 24000 km but not this for what appears to be a routine service. Or a dealer anyone would recommend?

I'm having my 12000k service done on Wed 31 MAR .. by Action Motorcycles City .. I'll let you know how much it costs.
Its only a minor service and normally I would do this myself but I need new tyres and changing tyres is something I don't want to do.

What a F&%*ing ripoff ….
…..
Wait for it …
…..
…..
make sure your sitting down ……
….
…..
…….
……..
$350 labour ….+ oil & filter costs + spark plugs + oil disposal fees ….
Then add gst to that !!!!
I need someone to restart my heart … please !! ''
Action M/C City are the culprits ..
Sydney riders, please don’t forget … ACTION M/C ''
1500K service labour $180
6000k service labour $216
12000k service labour $350 ... and the last bloody time they will ever see it ''
They cleaned it pretty good .. but then I didn’t think it was that dirty to begin with.
Then, they seemed to have overfilled it with oil …. I know I should take it back except that would be a pain in the arse and I don’t want to ever take my bike back there '', I’ll drain it myself .. I might wait to see if the filter still has some oil to soak up.
I think the high cost is because they have such overheads being in the city and too many employees and they know being in the city is a big drawcard .. its just so damn convenient. Luckily enough I won’t be working much longer and can take it to whomever I want in future, especially for the valve clearance service … no wonder they have a 2 year warranty .. I might try Balmain M/C next time … when the warranty’s finished I’ll be doing the minor servicing, I did it all the time on my old GPZ which lasted me for years and was still going strong when I had to rid myself of it due to neck pain.

Re: 1200 km service
i will let u know what mine is - i dropped it of this afternoon will pick it up tomorrow
Re: 1200 km service
Mine is going in for an 18,000 the week after Easter to my local Yamaha shop (140km to local Suzi shop) and if its any more than $280 I'll feel shafted. I will be requesting oil and oil filter (K & N there) and a general check over. Its singing beautifully so nothing else should be needed. Still on original plugs and I have been told more than once there is no need to change them when the book says and I agree. Sorry guys that’s the price you pay for living in major cities.
Re: 1200o km service
Thanks for the replies.
Even with Sydney overheads can't see why it is so expensive.
I bought my bike from Melbourne because bikes are so much cheaper down there - as are servicing costs.
I think a lot of the dealers think guys (mid-aged) with late model bikes will pay higher servicing costs.
There aren't lot of dealers to choose from.
I was going to buy an VFR 800 at one stage but the servicing costs put me off. Thought a 'naked' style bike would be much cheaper.
I'm annoyed someone who quoted me $350 a few weeks ago - when I go to take the bike in again he quotes $500. The bike is running sweet. So will spend the money on the major service at 24000. The servicing I can do myself in the meantime (I also have a Kawasaki KLR 250 and do the servicing on that bike).

potatomasher wrote:$378 inc plugs air and oil filter [they charge $90 per hour labour]
where was that done?
Re: 1200 km service
that was at APW motorcycles at brookvale - they seem to have done a good job. I must admit i was a bit worried about the plugs - if they weren't changed how would you know - but i drove past in the car [on the way to the dentist] later in the day and saw that it was up on the stand with the tank off and the mechanic was leaning over it taking out the plugs.
i took it there for the previous service as well
BAZ - what was the total cost of yours?

I'm still not happy
$455.33 incl gst for the servicing ..
and I'm still not happy with what they did, bike went in running better that coming out.
overfilled with oil .. went for run to kulnura today just to see how it ran and hoping the oil would soak well & truly into the new filter .. came home, still overfull of oil .. plan on draining some tomorrow.
AND it has a whine ... oh god what a whine .. whine .. whine .. whine .. I'm hoping that might be due to too much oil .. but I might have to loosen off the rear axle and check alignment or something .. I think I'll call ACTION on tuesday and tell them I'm not a happy chappy and request to speak with the manager.
but I also got two new metzeler roadtec Z6 supplied & fitted , so at the end of the day I parted with over $1100

Re: 1200 km service
did I read in this forum quite a long time ago that the lead balancing weights should be or can be removed. I seem to now have half a ton of lead on my rear wheel and I think that is causing the repetative whine I'm hearing.

Re: 1200 km service
I took my bike to Balmain m/c today, so they could just check out the rear end, and I can't thank those guy enough, they took it for a ride to see if they could hear my concerns, re-balanced the rear wheel, tensioned the chain, and its running great .. and you get to talk with the mechanic. They get to do my servicing in future.

Re: 1200 km service
you should write them a letter and tell them that the bike wasn't running properly when you got it back and you had to take it to another mechanic to get it fixed, attach a copy of the invoices [theirs and the other one] and ask for your money back, and/ or that you will never go there again. depending on how much you paid, you might want to take them to the consumer trader and tenancy tribunal [which isn't hard and costs $25] and get an order made against them
Re: 1200 km service
Mine is due for 12K service. Rang two dealerships, one quoted $380, second $320 with regular plugs and $380 with iridium.
What are iridium plugs?
Shall I ask for K&N air filter?
Thanks

Re: 1200 km service
Iridium refers to the metal of the electrodes, I think it's meant to be a step up from platinum.
They are supposed to last longer and give better ignition. Are you sure the plugs need replacing, I would have thought they would come with long life plugs, but can't be bothered looking up the 1250 manual.
The ones in some cars these days are meant to last 100,000 km
I bought my K&N filter online from the UK even with freight it was cheaper.
