second service
just picked up my fa from mick dyer at penrith.got the 6,000k service
just a dump and run you think?
wrong $300 later, gave me a list of what he checked
added injector clean as well to tank and told me to fill her up
he took out most of the play in the accelerator grip so when
i gave her a hit down mulgoa road she went for the moon in 2 and 3
sounds different and feels great.very happy but $300 is a bit much
any thoughts?
ps.booked it in at s & r pro day before and went to mick instead
dumbass.

Re: second service
We'll need to see the invoice but a gut feeling is a bike shop in good commercial space would be charging $85+ Ph to cover costs.
What else was changed, replaced, adjusted?

Re: second service
I'm thinking $100 an hour OR PART THERE OFF .So 1.5 hours =$200 + oil and filter $100 =$300
Thats why i didnt worry about the warranty and did it all myself .I can check a bolt . Home service = $80 but warranty a bit iffy .
Unlikely the motor's going to go BANG and there is not much else that can go wrong IMHO .
This is my 5th Suzuki and have never had a warranty claim .

RE:second service
the 2 guys i wanted to respond.2WA and GUS
noticed i put them in capitals, that shows respect
i can do service on my bike, have done for years ,but never had a brand new with warranty
i`m just being a good boy just in case.
now gus tells me suzuki`s are bullet proof .
stuff it,i`ll do the bloody lot myself
mind you,i have to know what oil they put in my babe
cause she`s going great.gear change is crisp, throttle is smooth
they told me they don`t like motul 5100 which was put in first service
too much crap in it.whatever they put in is working fine.
i`ll ask them 2 morrow what oil they gave me but it`s doing a great job.
hard to tell after 34 ks..
thanks 2WA and GUS
the legends of information.

Glad you're happy mate. There is nothing wrong with Motul 5100 but its probably over specced for the Bandit.
Everyone has an oil opinion though
I'm basking in the respect too
Re: second service
Of cause you could be the unlucky one who's motor goes BANG , but i doubt it .Keep the receipts of oil and filters and a little book with a record of YOUR service work written in it .It looks good if you are unlucky ,and you will have something to show the next owner .BE NEAT but oil on the page is good

Living close by to you I first took my bike to the bike mechanic under the Caltex garage at Wentworth Falls... don't remember the cost now (2 years ago) but thought he was a bit pricey too (over the $300 mark I think)...
The next time I made alot of inquiries in and around Penrith and then thought I'd give the guy at "Mudgee Bikeworx" (Paul is his name) a call. This is where the bike was originally purchased from (had 1700km on clock when I got it)... Anyhow ended up going out to Mudgee for every service since.. a nice easy ride from the mountains and he does it pretty quick smart. That first time out there I had 'Iridium' plugs put in that are quite a bit more costly than the normal type and the whole service was only about $180.00 whereas I had quotes from 'Westerns' at Penrith and others down there that wanted to charge $400 and more! At this point I'm going to keep going out to Mudgee...!
Might be worth while ringing him and getting a quote before you get it done anywhere else next time..?

Re:second cervice
thanks bruce,
i`ll take that in mind.
btw 2WA and GUS.mick dyer put extreme oil in my fa 10w40
they have been using the same oil for 12 months on their bikes too.
if anyone wants some for their own service.5ltrs $40 byo container.
gear operation is very smooth up and down
first start in the morning very quiet.
i`m going back to doing service every 5,000.depending how this oil performs
we`ll wait and see.
thanks gentlemen

Re:second service
scopebud,
that sounds like a great deal.i believe the plugs are expensive for a start
but why does it need plugs at 4k or even coolant changed at those klms?
i changed my coolant after my first service cause when i got home the bloody thing was nearly empty.
all the coolant hoses were loose, bastards.
anyway,as 2WA says"that`s my 2c worth"
safe riding gentlemen and ladies too

Re: second service
There is no 3k service.
1k 6k 12k 18k etc plugs at 24k I think (unless there are issues)

Re: second service
There is a test you can do on the state of the coolant. Mine is 08 with 24k on it and it tested ok. Will probably change it next time just because.
There is a knack to refilling apparently so you dont get air locks and run the head out of water

Re: second service
As far as warranty is concerned. If the items listed on the maintinance schedule book have been seen to and signed off, your warraty is valid. You can do the basic stuff yourself if you feel competent, ie, oil, fluids, plugs. I have been down this road before and saved myself a lot of time and money. Times or mileage recommendations in warranty manuals are almost always to the favour of the manufactuter, ( far enough ), that is that the mileage is HALF of what would be still in the realms of a safe working time. Normal road use from 5-10 000 ks on a good quality oil will not have any great difference in deterioration. We all want the best for our " Babies ", so we go the 5000. Doing your own minor services will help you get to know your bike better and save you $$$.

Re: second service
You have to undo a bolt in the water pump so you dont jet an air pocket .30 seconds

Re: second service
I didn't bother with the bolt in the water pump. I just took it for a quick spin around the block to warm it up, stopped and let it cool over night and then checked the overflow bottle, topped up and rode it.
