Gold and Black Bandit
First topic message reminder :
I was thinking about the chain and sprocket replacement that is coming up some time in the near future. I quite like the gold look against the black of the 2010+ Bandit and naturally though black bandit with gold chain and rear sprocket. So then i started thinking of adding gold bar end weights, being cheap to buy. But then I recalled those ZX12's and VFR800's with their gold rims - hmm might they look good on the Bandit with the aforementioned bling if I removed the tyres, brake rotors and had them painted? Anyone good with photoshop to do a mockup?

What do you reckon about doing the chin spoiler gold as well or putting some JPS decals on it if it stays black?
Re: Gold and Black Bandit
I should have done a clear coat. The finish straight from the can is a little rough/abrasive. A clear would make cleaning a little easier.
Lookin good Ewok!!

I'm going to give it a coat of black so a few gold decals might work. Hmm....

Different wheel !tag. This one came from Wollongong (a forum member) - it had bad flat spots on the rim, probably due to contact with a pothole. I mailed it to Alderton Motorcycle repairs in Smithsfield (Sydney) who rolled them out - cost $120 + $18 postage. Wave discs and titanium bolts to go on it when they arrive from the USA.

Time to paint all the other gold pieces with that paint. That colour looks so close to the colour used on the last run of zx12s

I'll be shocked if mine turns out like that mate. But the overall effect is right. Must have been put together by a rival team!
My only progress over the past two days was the addition of some rim decals.

Did you have the gold rims when you rode her to Cowra/Bathurst JTB?

If I remember rightly, you didn't even have room for a change of daks!

Ok, it looks a bit vulnerable under the front cylinder too

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
Here's the rear rim sourced from bikemad, having had two coats of paint stripper applied. A small amount of finishing to do on it before the primer goes on.
On the front wheel, the centre strip (still black on the above), also came completely off with the paint stripper. On the rear, I'll prime over the top off it.

Get the grinder out and take off those casting stamps
Re: Gold and Black Bandit
Now shod with Pirelli Angel GT tyres (first time for me with these). The rims need a few touch ups from the fitting and where I had take over the front wheel bearings (didn't realise that was visible). Might even get to fit them next week.

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
For this 'do it yourself' approach with rattle cans, the biggest issue is not cost but time, especially if they are the set of wheels you've taken off the bike. Putting multiple coats of primer, paint and sealer on could take several weekends if that is the only time in winter available. It's taken me long enough and I'm retired!

Should all be worth the time you've put in on it.
Can't wait to see a pic of the bike all back together.

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
That looks ace Ewok. A few heaters in the garage would be enough for painting. It is hard to juggle prep, paint, drying time, when you rely on the Bandit daily!!
