Test Ride new Aprilia Tuono V4 R
Righto,
I went down to Springwood Suzuki to test ride a Bking, and did, and was impressed with the torque and sitting pos but wasn`t happy with the handling, for me anyway. The sales bloke was a good lad,and let me take it for a half hour blat. After chewing the fat with him for a while,he mentioned the Aprilia Tuono V4 R,and I could see he was genuinely excited about this bike, and same again, said just take it... cane it...and don`t come back before half an hour.
I have ridden the old Tuono V twin, and no offence Gus,or to any one else with a twin, they just don`t rock my boat, and the 2009 model I original took for a ride, didn`t seem to have that much more power than my Bandit, and I wouldn`t have given them a second look. Fast track to today..holy shit..i`m in love with this bike. Totally different engine, V4..almost 170hp..193kg..pulling my arms from its sockets.
Its got all the bullshit new age stuff, slipper clutch, traction control, and anti wheelie setting, if you choose, and to be honest, was against this sort of stuff, but not having been on anything this agressive for a while, and having the traction set in the middle, but power deliverary was set on track,as it has three different maps, was happy to have the bullshit electronics help me on a test ride.
When I finally got to a stretch of rode that would allow me to have some fun, I gave it a fast feed in 1st,and it seemed dead and not that good, but that was the computer working so I wouldn`t flip it. Soon as I hit second and third...hold on.
I think it pulls harder in third, than my Bandit does in first..I`m not lying..go test ride one!! and the V4 sceaming at 12000rpm,sent a shiver up my spine, sounds like a GP bike.
Handling, braking, and sitting pos, was excellent. Maybe the seat would be a little hard after a while, but this, from my point of veiw, would be its only down fall.
So the damage as it stands right now from Aprilia with their "special" is..$23700 with a carbon Akripovic can, and new map to suit the new system.
A few dollars maybe, but in real world ridding, with the features it has,and also a practical bike,as it could easily be an every day ride, I think its not to bad value for money.
When I got back on my Bandit.I thought there was something wrong with it,as it had no power.
Go on..test ride one..you know you want to!!

That why im resisting the temptation , but if i come into $25.000 i'm down there .
2009 Tuono is Gen 2 a smoothed out Gen 1 .
Gen 1 is the go ,mine is 05 so getting dated . 7 years older than todays 1250 (holy shit its a realic )Around town its a pig .
So now you have to test the BMW RR and the new 1199 (?) Ducati PR .but ill take the ape .(and keep the bandit )
