HEY ALL. I'M THINKING OF CUTTING THE CAT FROM MY STANDARD HEADERS AND GETTING A PIECE OF PIPE WELDED BACK IN,
SO THEY ARE UNRESTRICTED, STRAIGHT THROUGH HEADERS.
AFTER MARKET HEADERS ARE OUT OF REACH AT THE MOMENT AS MY BOY WAS BORN 10WEEKS AGO.
SO IF ANY ONE KNOWS OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH DOING THIS, PLEASE TELL

REGARDS

Im not an expert at this. But i couldnt see to much going wrong with it. Alot of systems replace the cat anyway.

You dont need to "cut"the cat out you can just remove the muffler and spear it with a "podgy" bar, it is a fair bit of mucking around to get it all out, but there is no need to make thecat removal obvious and start people in blue asking questions.

I agree but I'd be removing the headers from the engine before I started hammering away.
I'd also allow for a dyno run/tune after this too as it will be running much leaner.

Just went for a ride on the bandit with the cat taken out. feels good and sounds great.
there's no big change in power by feel of it (bum dyno). its delived so easy and smooth, you can feel its free/unrestricted.
I'm really happy with the mod, BUT what a pain in the ass it was to get out.

I took the yoshi & mid pipe off
Got a big screwdriver, a jimmy bar & hammer, torch, plus a vac to suck the shit out.
and smashed the shit out of it for about 4-5hours. telling u now its a really big pain to get out.
IF i had to remove 1 again, I would take the headers off & cut through the pipe around the cat or cut a hole at the back of the pipe were it can't be seen & then get it welded back on after.
It would of made thing a lot easier.
The cat is made from some type of metal.
and take the o2 sensor out first.

I'm very happy with the mod

Thanks Reardo .
Got into it ,and removed the cat . Took me about 5 hours .What a crap job .When you think you have it all out there is about 2 hrs to go . Evil or Very Mad
I took the headers off and put the hose down each pipe and made sure it came out the end .Thats when you find out there is more left . No
With the cat in and no pipe it was nearly legal quiet lets say 5\10
With the cat OUT and no pipe it is LOUD (way louder than i expected ) 8 \10
A LOT of differance .

With the pipe on and no cat . if it was 6 before it is now a 7 . Not a great diff. but a bit .
Yet to test ride .

I'm thinking of doin this with a hole saw drill bit attached to my cordless drill I wonder if that would make the job easier than a hammer and screwdriver. Question

Yeah, There has to be a easier way. The way me and Gus did it was time consuming!

Here, I just whipped the headers off to show you the angle. Very Happy
