Grumpy tribute
First topic message reminder :
Ok guys,i know most of us did not go to Grumpy`s Funeral.I have seen pictures and it looked like a great day although not for good reasons.
I would like to ride down and pay tribute to the Great Man in person. The missus wants to come along too so we are going to plan a weekend.
I have been talking to Ash in act and he is in already.I did not realise how far down south it is but this is for Grumpy so an overnighter it is.
According to Google it is a 6 hour trip for me so frequent stops will be on the cards, the girl`s bum goes numb.My thoughts are to leave 1 Saturday and stay overnight somewhere,go to Grumpy`s grave on the Sunday and leave from there.
I cannot count how many funerals i have been to for fellow bikers but they are not pretty especially for the loved ones left behind.
I need to do this for myself to thank Grumpy for all his advise and good humour and to wish him well on the great highway in the sky.
Jeez that last bit sounds lame lol.
SO BE IT.
Anyone game for the ride?
Dates will be organised i am sure to suit everyone who is coming.
Having said that, there is no rush either cause the great man is not going anywhere. He is now resting.
Besides,it might take a while to get the plaque put on his grave so a later date would be good.
Ride safe gentlemen

Fellas
Sorry for going to ground. Between working stupid hours and doing the sole parent gig while the wife's been away for work, I haven't had time to scratch myself.
I am good with the Gouldburn meet up at Maccas. Ewok, I will be at your place at 9am.
I am hitting the road tomorrow for a six day tour to nowhere in particular. I will be home on Friday, so will check in then. Ewok, I will shoot you an email and we can chat during the week to sort out logistics.
Looking forward to the catch up.
Can I confirm that we will visit Grumpy's resting place on Sunday morning? I was going to let his wife know that we are coming down and get details of the exact location.
So what time are we meeting up with others in Batemans Bay? Or have events overtaken me?

Re: Grumpy tribute
I would think we'd hit Bateman's Bay at about 1.00pm - 1.30pm (latest) and have lunch. Any suggestions for a watering hole or lunch spot?

Guys, I emptied 252mm from the rain gauge on Saturday and the roads and my dirt drive have suffered (not as much as Brown Mt though). I don't reckon either will be OK for this weekend so let's swap to a hotel/motel. I'll post up a place that looks suitable and we'll go from there.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Here's a suggestion. We book 3 x Ensuite Plus cabins (which have linen). 1 @ $99 (Grover and myself). 2 @ $114, each of which can be split 3 ways between the remaining 6 people ($38 each). (If 4 were available, we could pair up at $49.50 each - I've left a message for them to ring me). No undercover parking though. Is that a problem?
http://www.islandview.com.au/index.html
Its close to a pub which we could walk to for dinner and then retire to the park for drinks. These places always have bbq/pergola areas or we could just use one of the cabins. I chose Narooma because it would shorten the Saturday ride for the farriders from the north and give us a bit more time to sort out wet gear - there are showers forecast. It's also only a short hop down to Bermy on Sunday morning. As soon as they ring back I'll know how many are available.

BTW Sale is closer to Bermagui than my place is [hint, hint]

Re: Grumpy tribute
I'd have to do some math, plus I'm supposed to be meeting up with Baz, so I'm not sure what suits him. I'm not sure if anyone else is coming from Sydney. There's also the possibility of meeting you guys at Narooma. That appears to be the overnight destination. Last time we stayed at Narooma we stayed at the Festival Motor Inn, nothing fancy but they had a balcony where we could put the bikes under.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Its 313 km from my place to Batemans Bay via the express way out of the city M4 & M7 & Hume Hwy, Kangaroo Valley, I think about 4hrs as its not all 100k/hr.
Peter has another 2.5 hrs ahead of that. I can't see us getting to the BAy until after 1430
I say we allow Peter to leave at a decent hour and just meet up in Narooma.
Peter I can meet you at the Pheasant's Nest roadhouse.
oh and the big4 caravan park in Narooma isn't in Narooma, its on the southern outerskirts of town and I don't think there is a pub within walking distance.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Probably not a bad move Baz & Peter. It's only an hour from the Bay to Narooma so no issues with meeting up with you at Narooma - no point you guys pushing too hard to make an artificial time at the Bay. I reckon you blokes will be pretty buggered by the time you arrive. I'll check the pricing and availability at the Festival Motor Inn. Fingers crossed for the weather.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Folks,
The Festival Motor Inn is booked out as are a number of other venues - apparently there is a footy do in Narooma this weekend. Accommodation is an issue but Easts Caravan Park can give us 3 x cabins. Bedding is 1 x double and 2 x bunks so we'd need three cabins for 8 of us.
Pricing: For 3: $117 per night ($39 each). For 2: $102 per night ($51 each). They will provide linen. This one is definitely walking distance to the pub. We need to book by 6.00pm tomorrow night to secure the rooms. There is a covered BBQ area we can use or a full recreation room or a lounge area for the night's fun and games. Or we could just use the kitchenette area in one of the cabins - so there are options. That's better than trying to fit into a small motel room IMHO. Bike parking is beside the cabins, not undercover.
The other option is The Tree Motel which also does not have undercover parking and no amenities area. Rooms are $75 each (Queen & 1x single bed) or $37.50 per head. It is central to the pub as well. Parking is outside of your room.
I recall the situation at the Bathurst motel on that trip when we had no drinking area and some people got grumpy with us so I like the caravan park as the better option and will ask them to hold the 3 cabins if there is no objection.
I am hoping people are checking this forum website given we are close to the ride date and the accommodation is yet to be finalised.
I am still working on the assumption that the following riders are coming:
- Me
- Grover
- Bhoffo
- Bruiser
- Anthony
- Baz
- Re-C
- JimColeman
Hoping to hear from you soon!

Re: Grumpy tribute
Bad luck Peter - you'll be missed.
So cabin wise it would now be 2 x $102 and 1 x $117 (Grover and I are happy to be a couple!).

Bruiser and I are meeting at Katoomba about 8am on Saturday and then planning to go via Oberon for a more scenic ride through the Mts to meet Grover and Ewok Maccas near the Big Ram in Goulburn around 10.30am - 11am... from there we'll be following Ewok... I'm estimating we'll be doing around 600km (and a bit more) each day ... Baz is welcome to come up here and join us - or if he likes perhaps meet us with Ewok and Grover down at Goulburn??

Well done Ewok... either is ok with me... if we are in the cabin do we need to bring linen/sleeping bags etc or is that provided...?

Re: Grumpy tribute
Something to think about guys. There is no great hurry to get to the Bay. We could have a more leisurely start and have lunch at the Loaded Dog in Tarago (1/2 hr from Goulburn), meaning you guys might want to stop somewhere a bit earlier for coffee before meeting us in Goulburn. Tarago to Narooma is about 2hrs 15 minutes - say 2.5 hrs with a stretch break. So if we met you at 11.30 at Goulburn, lunch 12.00-1.00pm Tarago, Bateman's Bay at 2.30pm, we'd be in at Narooma at say, 3.30pm - nothing wrong with that. Does that sound a bit more relaxing for you and would it suit Baz better? Or would you rather stick to the current timings?

I'm fine to get down to Goulburn around 10.30 - 11am... shouldn't need a rest break between the Mts and there.. so Bruiser and I can just veg out if we're there early or leave a little later and arrive soon after 11... (Probably best to go earlier just to make sure we get there on time..)

Re: Grumpy tribute
Sounds like a plan. So revised timings are:
- Goulburn: 11.30am latest (meet at the Big ram Maccas with the vegged out Bandits from the north, overfilled with chocolate moccas!)
- Tarago (lunch at the pub): 12.00pm - 1.00pm (1 full hr allocated!)
- Bateman's Bay: 2.15pm - 2.30pm
- Narooma: 3.30pm Caravan Park (Van Village/Easts Caravan Park)
Drinks run to follow to ensure supplies for the evening, dinner at O'Brien's pub (walk to and from).
Sunday: visit gravesite in morning, pay respects, and head back north/south - whatever suits best.
And no bloody dirt on any of the trip, including roadworks!
Jincoleman and Anthony: you guys ok with the plan and the accommodation?
