Grumpy tribute
First topic message reminder :
Ok guys,i know most of us did not go to Grumpy`s Funeral.I have seen pictures and it looked like a great day although not for good reasons.
I would like to ride down and pay tribute to the Great Man in person. The missus wants to come along too so we are going to plan a weekend.
I have been talking to Ash in act and he is in already.I did not realise how far down south it is but this is for Grumpy so an overnighter it is.
According to Google it is a 6 hour trip for me so frequent stops will be on the cards, the girl`s bum goes numb.My thoughts are to leave 1 Saturday and stay overnight somewhere,go to Grumpy`s grave on the Sunday and leave from there.
I cannot count how many funerals i have been to for fellow bikers but they are not pretty especially for the loved ones left behind.
I need to do this for myself to thank Grumpy for all his advise and good humour and to wish him well on the great highway in the sky.
Jeez that last bit sounds lame lol.
SO BE IT.
Anyone game for the ride?
Dates will be organised i am sure to suit everyone who is coming.
Having said that, there is no rush either cause the great man is not going anywhere. He is now resting.
Besides,it might take a while to get the plaque put on his grave so a later date would be good.
Ride safe gentlemen

Dates sound ok to me but will have to confirm when I'm back on Aussie soil....
Glad that someone (Grover) has thought about providing some 'real' Biker entertainment!!

I will bring a camp mattress, sleeping bag and plenty of grog.
What is the plan with food? Buy some stuff for a bbq on the way to the ranch?
Oh, who is organising the strippers? Only out of respect to Grumpy, of course.
Bev may be present so I'll only be able to watch through a crack in the wall! But as far as BBQ goes, to get away from the logistical hassle of having to pick up persihables (which would also take up valuable space on the bike that the grog can occupy), let's just agree that I'll provide all the mea,t salads, eggs and bacon - all you need to do is hand over 10 bucks. Sound OK?

Due to logistical challenges, you will have to provide the entertainment. I'm sure that with enough make-up, no one will know the difference
From what I`ve been told you would need a bucket & trowel

And that wouldn't even help much. I think the beard would be a dead giveaway unless I put the bucket on my head. We could try and round up a few grannies from the local CWA Hall. No? We will just have to drink more piss and talk more crap I suppose.
Ewok, won't that just create a hassle for you to organise the food. It wouldn't take much space on each bike to carry stuff from Bega (or whatever the nearest town is). Or we do a quick run back for food after dropping off some gear.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Mate, it's no problem for us to arrange some basic BBQ, bacon and eggs. Anyone with special dietary requirements might need to make their own arrangements. It's a 60km round trip to Bega (closest town) from the ranch so when I PM all riders with a map, anyone who needs to bring their own stuff can work out where to pick it up - but if we're tracking down the Princes Hwy from the north, then a side trip to Bega might be in order for those that need to get some food and/or grog. But Bev and I are happy to do the bbq, bacon &eggs.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Mate at least up the price to cover your costs. Make it $20 per head - still a bargain for two meals and it should actually cover your costs. You are laying on a place to stay as well, so shouldn't be putting your hand in your pocket for food.
Let's try and catch up for a beer or coffee this week.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Bruiser you wont have to worry about your snoring. Ewok could wake a small third-world nation and I snore when I am pissed (which I intend to be). It'll be a chorus of snoring. Bring earplugs!!!
We shouldn't need the map as Ewok will be with us, so he can lead the way. We can talk about the route more though, I am open to variations and options.
I can't wait for this ride and I am taking the week beforehand off to go touring for about 4 days or so. The in-laws are in town and I am not hanging around.

Re: Grumpy tribute
For distance planning purposes, use Bemboka as the destination and then subtract 15kms. It will be pretty close.
Also, I'll need to know if there is anyone who isn't joining up with us on Saturday somewhere along the route to send an address.

I'm not sure how it will work out, I have to come a long way further, so I will have to see about reaching the rendezvous point in time.
It looks doable, Narooma was done in a day by a much more circuitous route.

I think some posts and PMs went missing when the site was playing up last night.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Ewok,
No drama, it basically covered what we discussed over coffee today in terms of a route change for you and I. For others, Ewok and I are going to head a more direct route and join the Princes Hwy at Batemans Bay. We could meet others enroute, Batemans or further south. Ewok estimates it is about 2hrs from Bateman's to the farm and there is the option of a scenic route through the mountains if people are interested.
Baz, where will we meet you along the way?
Boatz are you still in?
Bruiser, check your emails.
Pack for rain - Ewok attracts the bloody stuff, even more so because he has warned of a dirt road to the farm.

What day are you travelling Peter .. Saturday .... I don't have to travel on the Friday.Re-Cycled wrote:OK who is going from Sydney?

It would only take the Canberrans a couple of hours to reach BB, it takes me about 4 hours from Sydney.
That would mean a very early start, which is fine by me.

Re: Grumpy tribute
Peter, Boatz is based in the Gong, so he may ride down with you if he's still in. I am still waiting to hear from the mountain men (bruiser and bhoffo) about their chosen route.
Earth to Boatz? Are you in mate?
Baz, Batemans Maccas sounds like a great spot because you can't bloody miss it. The food is shit, as normal.
Jim Coleman, where are you based and where do you want to meet up?
Gents, what time do people want to meet in Batemans Bay?

A lot depends Baz on when they want to meet at Batemans Bay, seeing that it's only 2 hours from there, I assume it wont be too early.
Gotta add at least 2 hours for me, I've got this big hole between me and Batemans Bay.
What route were you thinking of taking Baz?
What time were you other guys thinking about??
Bruiser: it would be helpful if you went back and edited the initial post which appears at the top of each page so that you don't have to dig back a few pages to check dates etc. Thanks.
Re: Grumpy tribute
If the ACT guys leave at 9am they will be at BB by about 1100-1130
that means I need to leave sydney by 0730.
but also Bemboka is only another 2 hours south of BB so we probably don't need to leave so early as we have daylight saving.
I was thinking of going the coast road

Re: Grumpy tribute
It really doesn't matter if we leave BB until around 1.30 - 2.00pm. It's only 2 hrs to the ranch from there (plus a bit if we do a grog stop on the way). So don't bust a gut getting to BB early - we can get there any time. Just let us know what suits you - I suggest the guys doing the longest leg set the meet and greet time in BB - we'll be there at that time.
