Clyde Mountain.
Got to take the bike down the coast for Christmas. Wife and kids drove. I rode. Sussex Inlet for family christmas dinner. A cool run from Taralga, near Goulburn, to Bungendore for family chrissy lunch. No beer. Gotta ride. Then thru Kangaroo Valley down to Sussex for Chrissy dinner. Nice. After a couple of days swimmin, fishin and drinkin, took the wife on the bike down the coast to Narooma. As I went thru the roundabout at Batemans Bay, I looked right up towards the Clyde Mountain run. Hmm. Maybe we should go that way instead of South. Na. Better to save that for myself. Selfish I know. She really wouldn't appreciate it as much as I would alone. So kept on to Narooma. Lunch at a Pub on a hill overlooking the water. Return trip had us stop for cheese at Bodalla. Also a coffee stop at Mogo. Looked left at Batemans Bay roundabout again. One day.
Another day or few swimmin, fishin and what was the other? Oh, drinkin. Then off home. Oh. I find myself alone on the bike. Wife and kids going home via Kangaroo Valley to Mittagong to visit a new horse shop. That means time. Time to go the long way. I tell her I'm going the Cyde Mountain. See ya.
The day is perfect. No wind. About 25deg, but craploads of traffic. At least it's all going the other way. Coming down to the coast. It makes for interesting and challenging overtaking opportunities. I take it easy as it is double demerits after all. As I turn right at the Batemans roudabout the anticipation builds. I have heard about this run a bit. It sounds like one of the better runs in the region. I hit the 100k zone after about 5 or 10k of roadwork, to be greeted with a few cars doing about 80. I make quick work of them and get on nice nice flow. Rolling hills and bends. Nice. As I hit the bottom of the mountain I've had a good run, though it was hard to tell when the mountain started as I was busy with overtaking. Plenty of overtaking opportunity, as a fair few double lanes open up. The bends are mainly fast and the bike enjoys the incline and corner combinations. I did tikle a couple of double white lines, with plenty of room, while chewing up the cars. I felt sorry for a guy going the otherway, down ,as I fly past and he was stuck behind a about 6 cars and a semi trailer in low range. What a wasted trip. Although I'm sure he wouldn't hang around too long. I get to the top and thought shit, that was awsome. It all happened so fast. I was so busy. Overtaking, long flowing bends, a few switchbacks. Including the hilly sections before the mountain, that was a really good, long run. Don't know how long, or far it was. I was so busy I wasn't paying attention. Overall, a top run that would've been a little better without the holiday traffic and the double demerit thing hanging over my head.
Into a very busy Braidwood, holiday traffic. Cafe's and bakeries had lines out the door. Found a little Artisan bakery up an alley, busy also, with a good coffee and an awsome focacia, cum pizza thing with prawns an chorizo sausage, in a pie warmer. The last thing left other than bread and bread rolls.
On the run back to Taralga, I was glad for the extra traffic on the road. As it kept things interesting. As with the demerit point thing, it would have been a long slow trip. A stop at the Taralga Hotel for a quick beer on the home stretch and the day was complete. The week was complete. A good way to spend the break.

Re: Clyde Mountain.
Did the same thing yesterday. Only my trip had a straight line tail gating hero attached to my number plate. A typical impatient driver, who was all over the place and couldn't overtake to save their live, plenty of opportunites but no enough brains to use them. I might of been doing some naughty speed when I over took 6 cars including the drop kick. I reckon he must of done a few double line overtakes to catch up and then proceeded to tailgate my arse down the Clyde. I'd loose him on corners but any straight stretch he was back again. Thankfully we cleared the main section of the Clyde before they did the overtake/pull right in front you trick and then jammed his brakes on because they didn't judge the next corner right.
My favourite bits were all car free, the 55 sweepers and the hairpins, lots of boot scraping to be had. Topped it off with a nice swim at Tuross Heads. What a way to start the new years.
