"Wootton Way" NSW - the old Buladelah mountain twisties
Went for a ride yesterday ( Sunday ) with the girl to do the Wootton Way. The Wootton Way is the new name for the bit of the former Pacific Hwy that went over the Buladelah "Mountains". For those of us that remember trips along the Pacific Hwy were invariably held up by slow trucks, caravans or both in this spot. The road is now just a 15k or so loop off the new Hwy, servicing a hand full of properties & the little village of Wootton. The turn off to the Wootton Way is not very well sign posted amoungst all the current road works, but is immediately left after a servo just north of Buladelah that has "ROADHOUSE" in big capitals on the roof.
Once onto the road its only a couple of k's before you start climbing & into the twisties. There is a fair bit of armco & some concrete barriers in the centre of the road on some bends. As the road is seldom used there were leaves on the road, mostly in the centre, & I reckon save this one for the warmer months. Any rain & give it a miss. The road surface looks a little rough in parts with large patched sections, but its actually quite smooth & grippy. Its a weird sensation riding along a former highway with not a sole around. Its like your own bit of private closed road - Awesome ! We passed one car in the entire loop. I took it fairly easy on the north run but had a play on the way back. Having the whole road to use was fantastic. If you had to change your line you usually had 2 lanes to use. Its mostly 45/55kmh sign posted sweepers up & down the hills.
The hardest thing about this ride is self control
I didn't have my camera but have pinched a couple of pics that show what its like.

Well I haven't had too many good runs through there lately, sometimes a LOT of leaves and only two tyre tracks through them, but it has been damp and moss visible on some bends. I'm sure if you get the right conditions it would be a good run, we usually go that way to avoid the highway anyway, you just have to be aware of the hazards created by the extremely low traffic usage.

Agreed..... personally I think it is too dangerous to play on.... done it numerous times in both the car and the bike and never felt comfortable with the grip levels in many areas.
Plus, rumour has it the cops still run thru there.... probably to have a quick run themselves
