Removing the 180km/h speed restriction on a Japanese domestic spec Bandit 1250
Hi guys,
Has anyone come across a solution to removing the 180km/h speed restriction that all Japanese domestic bikes have. She hits a wall at about 205km/h indicated. I saw a CBR1000RR forum and an Indian guy bought a Japanese import, one guy told him to buy a US spec ECU (expensive!)another guy reckons some wires only need bypassing.
Any thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Gi-Pro ATRE - http://www.healtech-electronics.com/
Makes a great gear indicator too.
Mine's mounted between the clocks. Doesn't make a big difference to unrestricted bikes

Hey geekay007. If it's restricted to 180, how did it do 205?geekay007 wrote:180km/h speed restriction that all Japanese domestic bikes have. She hits a wall at about 205km/h indicated.

I've had mine up to 200kmph (on a track of course) with the Healtech taking out the speedo error (although I left in about a 2% error so I should have been doing 196kmph actual if the error is linear.

It shows 205km/h on the clock, but all speedos are made to overestimate the speed. The error is anywhere from 5-15% (so I'm told).

I live in Japan and all domestic vehicles come out of the factory with a 180km/h limit.

Aussie Bandits share there ECU with the Hayabusa & B-King "apparently", So it's limited to a cool 300KPH & has it's timing retarded in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears too.

I've got a speedo healer and the bike will accelerate past 205 easily.

Thanks for your input gentlemen,
I emailed healtech and they got back to me quickly. The guy reckons that, 'it should remove the speed restriction' but they've never tested it on a JDM spec bike. I might just put a switch at the pink wire and test it myself. If it works, I might get the X-TRE.
Cheers lads.

Let us know how you get on. I hope things are improving over in Japan. Not a lot about it at present on the news, but it'll take years to get over.

Re: Removing the 180km/h speed restriction on a Japanese domestic spec Bandit 1250
Just disconnect the GP Switch/sensor at the white three pin plug under the left hand side cover. Free and easily reversible so you can check first. Takes all of 3 mins workI might just put a switch at the pink wire and test it myself.
Be warned tho - you will NOT get a neutral light on the dash, and you will NOT be able to start the bike with the stand down no matter which gear you are in.
If it does work and you are not wanting a GP indicator, you can just remove the pink wire from the connector (or do the ghetto wire cut method) and plug it all back together and you'll get a neutral light and all will work as it should.
Being a jap spec bike it may not work as there may be something else in the ECU doing the speed restriction thingo

OK!
Thanks gents. Dhula it worked like a charm. Removed the GPS coupling and I managed 215 km/h on the clock this arvo (too much traffic!). Did a 50 km shakedown and all OK except for some snatchiness. At least I now know the X-Tre will work Kewwig.
Again thanks for the help lads. I'll take her for a nice long blast in the mountains tomorrow morning nice and early.
P.S. Managed to squeeze 235kph on the clock this morning. Did a 380km blast and all is well. Thanks again.
