Slight engine "miss", after sitting for 9 months
Hello, SBA Forum !!
I hope all is well with you guys.
I don't often post, but when I need help, your the guys I turn to.
I got back to my GFS 1250s Bandit after being "forced" away for 9 month and now the engine has a slight miss at idle, and it's even slightly noticeable while I'm riding.
Sometimes at start-up, it "spits" once and you have to "blip" the throttle while cranking, to get it to fire off.
The fuel smelled OK in the tank, but ran a cap of Seafoam thru it and topped up the tank.
I've probably run 5 tanksful of just straight fuel, thru it by now.
Does anyone know if the injector/injectors can get clogged ?
Any other suggestions ??
I have a Kawa KLR650 that clogs the idle jet if left sitting too long.
Thanks, captbruce

I don't see why they can't get blocked like any other injectors .

Probably need to clean injectors , its an easy task using a 9volt battery . Can post up how if needed .

Thanks, as always...
Thanks for your replies.
I may try some injector cleaner in the fuel first before I have to remove and clean the injectors.
Or do you think I should just clean the injectors anyway ?
Can I get to the injectors without removing the Throttle bodies ?
I have had the TB's out before when I removed the secondary butterflies.
I searched the FORUM and found very little about removing the injectors.
Also, I will start running on some better fuel, from now on.
I see a lot of guys on the FORUM, running "High-Test".

Re: Slight engine "miss", after sitting for 9 months
If the miss happens on start up check the heat of headers (by hand carefully ) after 30 seconds or so of running . Is one a little colder than the others .
I had a "miss" on my bmw the other day which caused the sale to fall through (luckily). The plug cap had come loose . One header was cold ,pushed cap back on ,fixed .
Or ,run it ,pull plugs ,are they all the same colour ?(within reason ) Or is one way out. (blacker )
Or (lol ) run it at night and check for an ark ( electrical flash ) you may able to hear it also .

Re: Slight engine "miss", after sitting for 9 months
Thanks, Gus.
I forgot to mention... I changed the plugs when it first happened.
I will check the header heat this morning on start-up.
Yesterday, I put more Seafoam in the tank and topped-up with 3 gallons of 90 octane Non-Ethanol Gas (Rec Fuel)
Most American fuel is 10% Ethanol (derived from Corn) (Some "Bright Idea" of our Legislatures to clean-up emissions and save $$$, but all it did was ruin many engines and engine parts, and drove the cost of food thru the roof !!)
Regular 87 Octane cost $2.69/Gallon 90 Non-Ethanol was $3.69, the highest octane fuel we have is 93 octane with Ethanol and is $3.69 also.
And drove it all day, and it seemed to run good, but I can still feel a slight miss. I will know more this morning on start-up, when it's really noticeable, and there is some slight over-fueling I can smell in the exhaust.
I'd almost bet, an injector is shooting a weird pattern.
Can you remove them without removing the T/Bodies ??

I'm to old to remember , but normally its about two bolts on a rail and a simple clip. Is it a miss or a feeling of lack of power ? If its the lack of forward motion could be the fuel pump fix needed . On the forum ,no $"s needed .

Good Sign !!
Thanks again, Gus.
This morning it started without any problems !!
No stalling, multiple attempts, spitting.
No blipping the throttle, to get it to fire off.
No excessive gas fumes in the exhaust.
Just Vroom, and a nice smooth idle. Just like she used to !!
I did not get to ride the bike, due to prior commitments, with the wife.
I'll run some more fuel through her today.
I think the double dose of SEAFOAM, and topped-up with 3 gallons of 90 Non-Ethanol, may have done the trick.
I will stick to better fuel, from now on.
To answer your question...
It was a slight miss, especially at idle, and slightly noticeable under way, NOT a loss of power.
also a slight pop on deceleration, which it never did before.
I may take the injectors out and inspect them, anyway, when I can find the time.
I am just thankful, it seems to be better now.
Ride safe !!
