Trivia .....
First topic message reminder :
What does everone think about a TRIVIA thread
Stuff that maybe of no use to most people but really handy to the others. Maybe a good DVD ,something they have made, seen ,heard of ,
cooked ,been too .Minor things that do not really warrant a post of there own.(like most of my stuff ,there beat you to it )
Like taking a tractor tyre up north to float your Bandit across a river to a football selection ,the taste of beer ,who's state is
better at Rugby League. (may be not that) .Something that may make someone else say ,"why didnt i think of that".
Good idea or just post it on "off topic discussions " or not post it at all? (feeling vulnerable now )

Beware ..................
Working at home in non closed boots ,like gum-boots ,ug-boots ect
I was adding some burning sticks to a dying fire when a 60mm piece of smouldering amber, brock off ,and went down into my gum boot (no sock )
Sounds funny , even i MAY laugh when I look at the scar and remember the 2 weeks of limping around with a hole in my ankle .
But I doubt it .

Re: Beware ..................
I still remember the feeling. I had a blob of molten metal go down the front of a pair of Blundstones. My hands were full and left it thinking that it wouldn't burn for long. A while later when it stopped, (or I had killed the nerves), I took of my boot for a look and found a 6mm hole 20mm deep with a lump of metal at the bottom. I fished it out and the hole eventually heeled up.gus wrote:Working at home in non closed boots ,like gum-boots ,ug-boots ect

Re: Trivia .....
I had a similar experience, years ago. The front engine mount on my VW Beetle came away from the chassis. I parked it over a sunken path so I could lay under and weld (read: pigeon poop) it back on with a friends stick welder.gus wrote:Working at home in non closed boots ,like gum-boots ,ug-boots ect

I made sure to wear an old woollen jumper for any sparks.
After I finished the first electrode I twisted the handle to release the rod and stuck my arm out the side to flick the hot stub out, some how it managed to go straight up and then down the sleeve of the jumper.
It's very hard to get something out of you sleeve when you can't get you wrist below your shoulder level.
After doing my best not to brand my forearm too many times, I managed to wriggle out and remove it.
Re: Trivia .....
I did a few years of industrial welding, in and around Brissy. We had a small but good team. 3-4 guys. I remember one time on a site I was doing a quick weld on something when all of a sudden I felt a rush of warmth rise up my chest. Lifted my helmet to see my cotton fluro work shirt fully alite. I was on fire ! All my work buddy could do was laugh. I managed to put it out with my gloved hand. Amazingly all I did was singe off all my chest hair. Last time I did any welding without my jacket on. Me mate laughed about that for ages.

Re: Trivia .....
I had a rather fun day today ,
Bought a tl 1000s ,jimmy paid for it and is under some delusion that HE actually now owns it .
An hour later bought an xl falcon ute (duel fuel) I had to pay for that that one .(bummer)
Ive been riding to work at 4 .30 am since the Subaru bent all its valves . Not a great problem
but its going to rain someday and its hard carrying 5 litres of petrol down you jacket for
the ride on mower .(don't even think about it )
A bloke down the road actually did it and caught his arm on fire .While he was in the ambulance
the police charged him for an unlicensed firearm .

Re: Trivia .....
Was just checking out some places on Goggle Earth for our upcoming Cowra trip and thought I would take the tour around Bathurst. The version I'm looking at at work ( Shhhhh, don't tell the boss ) is 2011. You actually follow a guy, or gal, on a bike around the track. At some distance. But it is obviously someone just having a cruise around. How cool would that be, and to know that that was you. You can get pretty close to him/her at the cutting down the end of ConRod straight. Can't make out what sort of bike it is on this computer. Hey ! It is trivia.

Re: Trivia .....
What 5 letter word is shorter when you add to letters to it?
If it takes four blokes 2 hours to dig a hole. How long would it take 1 bloke to dig half a hole?
A Plane crashes. Every single person in the crash dies. 2 people survive. How can this happen?

Re: Trivia .....
Oh behaaaave. That's funny Paul, I read Baz's in Dr Evils voice. In regard to the ISBN, it's easier now I suppose when the clocks not ticking down. Having said that, out of the many, many, people I've spoken to afterwards only two genuinely knew it. One was a librarian and the other is a manager of a Dymocks book shop. So I don't feel so bad. Hope you think the new Avatar is " groovy baby, yeah ". I did it just for you mate.

Re: Trivia .....
The only two questions I knew the answer to were the one you missed and the "Where do you get it o" one, so I wouldn't have even gotten to it.
