GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
My wife is starting to look at a replacement for her M750, I'm trying to steer her towards a GSX650F, but she's not convinced.
Does anyone know what the power and torque figures are for the GSX650F? Armed with this information I might be able to convince her to at least take it for a test ride.

A tad over 73 horses, and 58 Nm of torque for the unrestricted version. It's also 63 kg heavier.
What's more impressive is that your missus would be swayed by power and torque figures! A generalisation I know, but most girls I know couldn't give a fluff about such things.

Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
Umm, my wife is not what you'd call a 'girly girl'. I'm ashamed to say that unlike me, she actually has some idea of how bikes and cars work. I just know that I turn a key, press a button, white mans magic happens and the bike starts. If it doesn't I call her.
Yep, 73 horses probably isn't as much of an increase as she's looking for. She's looking for something with 90 to 100 hp.
On saturday she rode a CB1000R and while she thought it was a nice bike it didn't do anything for her. It was too quiet and the wind buffering at 120+ was unbearable. Personally, I just didn't like the seat.
At the moment there's 3 bikes she's considering. FZ1S, F800R and an R6. We are planning on going down to Albury in a few weeks and hopefully taking a Street Tripple and a Speed Tripple for a test ride. She also wants to take a Z1000 for a ride. She's already ridden one, but we don't think it was set up properly because the front end was very very vague and it would get a head shake under moderate accelertion.
The other thing she is looking at is getting the seat reshaped and doing some air box/filter mods and rejetting the carbies on her monster.

Talk about a wide range of bikes Have a think about a VFR too. Much better touring than an R6 and almost as capable. And if nakeds are still on the list a GSR750 (120hp)
The speed and street tripple's are great bikes but you need to be the right size to ride them any further than around the block. I'm not the right size lol
Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
She seems to like nakeds, so a Moto Guzzi Griso 8V SE for the win!

Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
She sat on the VFR800, but the she doesn't like the styling, it's too pretty. I suggested we buy an 18mth old one and rip the fairings off. She didn't say anything, she just have me 'that' look, you know the one where if you say anything else you are going to get hit.
As for Moto Guzzi's, if she gets rid of the Ducati, it WILL NOT be replaced by another temperamental Italian that no one within 200km will service.
The GSR750 (or 600 for that matter) is a possibility.
She's 5'4" so the Street/Speed tripple might be a good fit for 'touring'.
Yes she does like her bikes naked. Pity she doesn't.....no never mind......

Since being under Aprilia, and now Piaggio, Moto Guzzi's are not the "temperamental Italian's" they once used to be.
Any mechanic who can not service a Guzzi seriously needs to hand back their trade certificate. The hallmark Guzzi V twin was first penned by Giulio Cesare Carcano back in the early 60's, and admittedly hasn't changed much in design since!
The only reason I sold the '02 V11 Sport I had was because I wanted a bike designed for long distance touring. Never once did it give me an ounce of trouble.

Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
It's great fun spending someone else's money! What are the basic criteria though? ie does she want a four, a twin, a sports bike, a tourer, a classic, a cruiser, etc? 5ft 4in is pretty short (don't tell her I said that! ) which might be a limiting factor. You could always go for some bling and get a GSX-R1000, 25th anniversary edition - only 60 imported into Australia. Might even be worth more in years to come than today's asking price.

I may have missed it but what about the new naked bandit? 650f can get 80hp with the right mod
s and is good for 12 second quarters.

Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
The main criteria is that she must get a lasting smile from riding it. To narrow down the search it should have 90+hp and be more comfortable than the 750 monster and preferably naked and/or on the ugly side, definitely not a cruiser or tourer. Up until she rode the FZ1S and R6 she didn't want a four, now she's open to the idea.
Her hieght (or lack of) isn't really a factor. She's a fairly confident rider and as long as her toes can touch the ground she's happy.
The biggest limiting factor is having someone within 200km that can/will service it. This basically counts out Ducati's, Aprilia's and Motoguzi's Of the other Euro brands Albury (about 120km away) have dealers for Triumph, BMW and KTM.
She likes the Bandit, but it doesn't really do anything for her. She also liked my old GSX600F, but same thing, she liked riding it occaisonally, but it wasn't what she wanted.
Oh someone mentioned the Streetfighter. When we had a Ducati dealer here, she drooled over the Streetfighter everytime we went in. She eventually got to do a quick test ride. It was quite sad really. Here she was all pumped up and excited, then she sat on it. I've never seen anyone deflate so quickly in my life. To say she was disappointed would be the understatement of the year. In fact, it was similar with the CB1000R.

Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
Hey !! I can identify with this girl - the same disappointments and indecisions have plagued me - er well - nearly the same. My wife was 5ft 2ins - I never met a more gutsy girl - she could put me in my place with trembling and fear - and she loved nakedness - except -er - well hmm, same same. I tried the Street Triple, have to agree with 2wheels - short rides only and an after-market seat would be a necessity.
Dunno why - but I keep coming back to the Yamaha ZF 600 naked. Although I have a current bid on Bandit 650 which I also like. Does your lady like loads of torque or is she happy to ring some-thing's neck when she wants the power ? I Personally enjoy the low down quite cruise-ability with a smooth throttle - but be hanging on when it reaches 7000 and even more so when it reaches 10000. Standing quarter varies from (FZ 600) 11,6 to 12.8 depending which site you read 1st.
Don't think I'm interested in a Duke after your comments on temperamental and servicing. But I would be interested to know what price you have on it ?
They say women who uhm anyway are temperamental and need lots of servicing - I mean servicing in the way of listening to them, being kind, caring, etc etc They also say if you really look after these things you'll soon be naked yourself - ?? Dunno what that means

Re: GSX650F POWER AND TORQUE????
She hasn't put a price on it yet. And to be honest I don't think she ever will. Every time she rides something that she thinks is 'the one' she takes the Monster for a ride and says "nope, I'll stick with this thanks".
She prefers the power delivery of a twin, but as I said she was swayed by the FZ1S and thoroughly enjoyed the R6. On the other hand she hated the Z1000 and ZX6R. Like most woman, I don't think she actually knows what she wants, she'll know it when she rides it.
Personally, I'm happy for her to hold on to the Monster, it's a fun bike to ride and brings out the hoon in me, I just couldn't live with it day to day.
The only problem we have with servicing is there is no Ducati mechanic in Wagga anymore, and it's tempramental because it only gets ridden a couple of times a month.
As for comfort, I didn't think I could sit on a more uncomfortable seat than the one on the monster, that was until I took the CB1000R for a ride, it actually caused pain.

I'm with you, not much to like about it. The GSX1400, while a naked, is just too plain Jane.
It was me that found the CB1000 uncomfortable, Janice (my wife) thought it was comfortable enough, but it didn't do an awful lot for her when she rode it. Basically she thought it lacked feeling and soul.
We were talking last night, as you do, and she hit me with. "I've decided I'm not selling the Monster, it's the bike I always lusted after, why would I want to sell it. A reshape of the seat, modify the airbox and put in a K&N airfilter, rejet the carbies and hey presto, I get what I want".
It would appear that the search is off, for now.
