Griffin Qld to Tamworth, not the way I wanted to go
I had intended leaving my brother's in the Northern Suburbs of Brisbane, heading out through Beaudesert to Lyons Rd, Drake and across to Tenterfield to ride the last bit to Tamworth on the New England, all my plans came crashing down thanks to Debbie (cyclone) and the flooding her aftermath left south of Brisbane, all of the areas I needed to travel through out of Brisbane were completely cut off.
My original route that wasn't to be
I decided to just follow the Cunningham and New England Highways and make sure I wasn't going to run into flooding somewhere
I left Griffin in the Northern Suburbs just before 5:30am and headed for somewhere around Ipswich for Breakfast, I ended up stopping at Yamanto for breakfast just before Amberly/Willowbank. Back on the road, I'll never get sick of the corners or the scenery going up through Cunninghams Gap but boy does the temperature start to drop heading up there.
My next stop was Warwick about 8:00 for a gym session then the Post Office when it opened at 9:00, I'd bought new shoes and some bits and pieces Saturday and was running out of space (had stuff tied onto the back seat) so I sent my old shoes plus any clothes I wouldn't need home by post.
I was parked out front of the Gym, lucky I wasn't in too big a hurry to leave while this bloke unloaded in the main street
Back on the road again and the temperature just kept going down, by Glen Innes I'd stopped and put a second T shirt and my storm jacket on, before Armidale I stopped to put my Nordic pants over my cargos.
My last fuel stop before Tamworth was Uralla where I stripped all the extra layers off again, another 90 km into Tamworth and that was a fairly long day over, quick check in to the motel then just down the road to visit the Powerhouse Museum, I'd heard great things about this place, it was good, but not Nabiac good, not even close.
