Taree to Urunga via Oxley Hwy and Waterfall Way
Day 2 after leaving Sydney and the IFOS house I travelled from Taree to Urunga to stay with Kiwisteve and his better 1/2 Helen for the night, I'd been watching the weather closely with Cyclone Debbie heading for the coast in Nth Qld and threatening to create havoc after it crossed land and headed South, forecast was still ok so I headed for the Oxley via Bago Rd in light to medium fog, that was the beginning of another great day in the saddle, while Putty left me feeling a bit disappointed, the Oxley mad up for it with ease, what a great ride.
That road has a bit of everything, thankfully it has thoughtful drivers giving me a few flashes about 1/2 a km before a highway patrol car was parked up, very thankful
1st Rest Stop
I had a fuel stop in Walcha, by Aridale I was feeling really stiff and tired so I did a walk on the treadmill and a big stretch session, that got me loosened up and back on the bike heading for Waterfall Way and somewhere for lunch. Kiwisteve messaged me to say he was getting off work early and would meet me in Dorrigo so I decided that was as good as anywhere for a lunch stop. I arrived in town, found a awesome little cafe that di great pied rolls and was tucking in as Kiwisteve rolled in on his Tiger.
After lunch he took me just out of town to visit Dorrigo Falls
Found a Kiwi on a Pommy ride
Dorrigo Falls
After the falls it was back into town and back onto Waterfall Way for the ride down to the coast. Not far out of town I was led down another side road to visit Griffiths Lookout where you could see all the way to the coast, what a view!!
After checking out the breathtaking view, back on the road heading down the mountain, we stopped for a while where a waterfall nearly falls onto the road
We arrived at Steve and Helen's little slice of paradise and I got settled in and showered, soon after their cat tried to have my welcoming committee for tea
Urunga to Griffin (Nth Brisbane)
No pic's this day and not much to tell so I'll tac the day onto yesterdays ride thread
Ieft Steve's early in the morning knowing they were forecasting storms in the afternoon/overnight in Brisbane, the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie, for the 3rd morning straight I began the day in fog. I had originally intended leaving the Pacific Hwy at Grafton and heading to Griffin over the mountains the skirting around the West and Northern sides of Brisbane. Looking at the forecast I decided to head for Lismore then reassess when I checked to radar. I had the Gps set for Lismore with Grafton as a via point, by the time I realised it was traking me to Lismore via Ballina a decided I'd just stick to the Highway and deal with the traffic/roadworks etc. I was lucky enough to slip past dozens, even hundreds of parked up vehicles at roadworks and get close to the front by the time the traffic started moving.
By Tweed Heads I was ready for more than just a 5 minute stretch so I pulled in and took a good break after I refuelled. Once back on the Highway I was sweltering, hot sun and stinking humidity ....................
Until I crossed under the Gold Coast Runway, entered "Sunny" Queensland and down it came, with in seconds I was soaked through and that's how I spent most of the next hour, pouring rain and 6 lanes wide of dirty road spray. The last 1/2 hour or so from just before the Gateway Bridge the rain stopped and I started to dry out.
That night my Brother and I drove up to the Morayfield Tavern to catch up with Hammy for tea, he was staying there a few nights while he was working nearby, it was great to catch up again, definitely the highlight of the day.
That night the rain really hit and kept up all the next day, thankfully the worst waited until my bike was tucked away in my brothers garage

Yes they are, put the Putty to shame IMHO Bosco
I travelled a bit of the Western end of the Oxley between Tamworth and Coonabarabran, not so exciting out that way, some bloody nice scenery though
