Now looks like three of us have got good taste, including IronMan
I think he's referring to the fact that Jimmy has now joined yourself and BD as a DL owner ?

In the words of Moving Pictures "What about me?"
If you get any buffeting try playing with the mirrors JTB.

Just as a matter of interest, Ewok have you ridden one of these things? It's just my very first thought when I got on it was, Wow this would be a great bike for a taller bloke. I'm 183cm ( 6ft ) tall and I'm just able to touch the ground. I'm not sure how someone around 5'10 or under could physically ride one around town without falling over at a stop sign? I guess you'd need to get it lowered?

I guess that's why the bloke selling the red one had it lowered, he would have been 5' 8" at best

I fitted 30mm lowering links and moved the front forks up 25mm
Also had 40mm cut out of the seat by a very competent motor trimmer
Removed the rubber buttons under the seat and replaced with foam tape.
Overall reduction 70mm.
BTW I am 5'6" (167cm) a modern day rendition of a Hobbit but much better looking!

Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!
Go for a bigger adjustable screen and bar risers. Just fitted anakee iii tyres really good rubber. Actually prefer the ride position to my b12. Im 198cm and i fit it perfectly.

You know I never considered a Adventure tourer because I felt I'd be too short for them at 5' 9", but then I sat on that Triumph Explorer in Sydney and found I could reach the ground, at a stretch. So I looked up the specs for the Triumph and compared it to the DL.
Triumph 837-857 mm
DL1000 850
I'm guessing the bike in that shop was set to the lower height.

Jimmy's bike comes with a larger touring screen as well, when I was talking to the previous owner, he'd said never fitted it as he felt even the std screen blocked too much wind in it's highest position, it came with the bike when he purchased it.

Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!
Well my beloved TL sold yesterday morning ( albeit to my boss and top mate Ash ) so it's still in the family at least .
He also bought my 2004 Bandit1200s off me a few years back when I Bought the TL. So no doubt there will be a Bandit for sale as of now. I have no idea what he wants for it, but it's a beauty. I put Delkevic headers, Yoshi titanium can and had it jetted and dynotuned when I owned it. I'm sure there's a picture of it on here somewhere? Anyway if anyone is at all interested and would like to know more ,please throw me a message . Cheers, JTB.

Hey jtb, good to hear you've gone to the dark side, (adventure tourers).
You will be displeased to know that my little 800 has about the same output as your 1000 tho

Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!
Gday Everyone , Attention Peter, Dave and Ironman, What have you blokes done about the buffering on your DL'S?? Peter I've tried playing with the mirrors, in fact I actually removed them altogether but to no avail . I've put the screen in all positions and used longer bolts to tilt it back on a more acute angle but not enough I guess?. Does anyone have, ( or tried ) the Madstad adjustable bracket? I think that's my next option but I'd like to rack your collective brains first. Cheers and Thankyou in advance, a wind blown JTB

Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!
If you haven't already done so, check out www.stromtrooper.com website
You will find many hundreds of hours of discussion regarding wind buffeting and the many solutions available, plus lots of other mind numbing crap.
Me personally, I don't find wind is that much of a problem but I guess that depends of the speed you are travelling at.
I think of the VStrom as a very comfortable trail bike and ride it accordingly.
The changes I have done to the bike are
- 12volt accessory socket (also doubles as an easy place to plug in my Ctek charger) <$10
- daytime running lights to improve my visibility <$10
- Givi crash bars $300
- homemade pannier racks $100 + 2x supercheap toolboxes $90
- Givi 20litre tanklock bag $200
- digital voltmeter to monitor battery/charging system <$10
There has been a recall on charging systems. It might pay to see if yours is on the list

Have you tried the other screen that came with it?
Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!
Pity you've changed your avatar , other wise you could have " ducked " down a bit . As Dave suggested , maybe the Vstrom forum may have come across this problem & found a solution , but sometimes even what we wear can cause buffeting .
