Jimmy the Boy wrote:Okay it seems I'm now looking at a DL1000 ( I'm easily lead ). I can vouch for the engine as I have had 2 TLS's. It's all about the pillion comfort and it does look pretty good. I've made an enquiry to an owner of one on Bikesales so we will see what happens?? If someone in the know would like to have a gander and tell me if they think it's value I would greatly appreciate it. It's on page 2 and it's black with Akcropovic Pipes, 13000Kms and it's $8900 in SA. It's certainly the best one on there but I'm wondering what I should be paying? It will probably be sold anyway knowing my luck:). If it's not, is Vista anywhere near you Chook or Paul??
Is this the one?

Vista's not that close but nothing is too far away in Adelaide, I'll see what I can do in the next couple of days
It's about 40 min away, I went nearly straight past coming back into Adelaide on Thursday
BTW, if you buy it and want to fly over and ride back, you can have a bed here, 10 min walk from the airport terminal.

Sorry to hijack.
The bike came new with Bridgestone tyres which I replaced at 14,000Km (probably could have done another 2000Km)
I had Michelin PR, PR2 and PR3 on the two Bandits and they served me well.
I bought the Anakee tyres for no particular reason except for brand loyalty I guess.
They are quite a bit quieter than the Bridgestone so that is a plus. Other than that, they are black and round.
I found the tyres on BikeBiz in Sydney and visited my local Sunstate dealer to check there prices.
They had a pair of tyres in stock.
I told them I had a quote from BikeBiz (I didn't say how much) but if they could match it then they had a sale.
There best price was $2 more which was close enough for me.
A friend of mine just happens to have a tyre changer so fitting was not an issue.

I've sent him a message, I'll see if I can pop over there one day this week.
There's not much to compare this one to price wise, 7 years old and less than 15000km isn't the norm, anything else close to the km's is 4 or 5 years newer and the next series of DL, they are all $2 -4000 dearer

I know Paul, it's just the fact there's no reg and the shipping, that's another $1300 at least . On a sad note I just found out John Clarke passed away. Very sad, the greatest political satirist of our time in my opinion. I know he would of given man with your sense of humour a few laughs over the years.

Could be a bit of a bargaining point re price ( maybe a cheap air fare & weekend trip may be in order ) ............Sad news about John Clarke , very clever man .

Great bike, comfortable for long distances (rider & pillion), you can just get on & ride away! Genuinely regretful sale. Feel free to call for further info.

You haven't considered a 2015+ Kawasaki Versys 1000 JTB? Very upright seating position. Grunty 1000cc in-line 4 engine. Softish ride. I haven't been able to find any complaints from users through on-line searches, but I don't know anyone who owns one.

They do look good Dave but I am a fan of the twin. That motor in the Suzuki is a classic and mine have never missed a beat.

Maybe consider a Yammy TDM900. When I was looking to buy the Bandit, I sat on one and couldn't believe how comfy it was. I often wonder if I'd have preferred it to the Bandit.

I just got back from a awesome morning's ride in the hills to check this one out
13000km, 1st reg in early 2012 and now with the second owner (apparently first was fastidious, this one obviously not)
Owner cant find service/owners books
It was presented filthy dirty (even by Ewok's standards )
In one word - ROUGH
has been kept in a carport with no sides, all bolts, exhaust, edges of rotors etc etc rusty
Had a low speed drop on RHS
That may or may not have been the limit to the damage, too dirty to tell
The luggage was unmarked
On the plus side, I just rode another 60+ km of twisties
Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!

Sounds like you could use those flaws as good bargaining points. Find out the cost of bolt replacement kit at the very least and go from there

This one is very nice, spotless except for the plastic cowl above the RH side of fairing where the previous owner "scraped" off the warning sticker and dug into the plastic
Nice Akrapovic pipes, dyno'd and remapped
The whole thing is a bit of a heart break story, he had a GSX-R, his wife and he wanted to tour Australia by bike, bought the Vstrom, changed seat to a Gel, new tyres etc etc, did about 100km on the new seat/tyre then was involved in a horrific work accident, broken vetrabra, 2 broken legs etc etc, that was the end of his riding, he's held onto it with hope but to no avail.
You probably remember this Paul, I know I did

No problems, timed it perfectly with me getting home and still being on holidays, yesterday especially was a pleasure, had a great ride, the bloke you purchased the bike from seems a top bloke as well that's been doing it tough, lovely wife and the great thing is, even with all the pain and suffering he's been going through, when I said good luck with your back and legs, his reply "It's all good, I'm alive and we're expecting our 1st child"
They are both 39, he actually reminded me of a black haired version of you. When I mentioned how fussy you were to have everything right, his wife smiled and said just like you, he deserves to have the bike

Re: It's Aliiiiive!!!
I'm of the opinion that a lot of the ignition and fuel injection parts on the Bandit are similar except for the part numbers.
If you could cross reference, I reckon there would be lots of cost savings to be had.
Even the service manuals share lots of common information.
