$1000 tl1000s project
Bought off Gumtree, bike in pieces ,had been a spill .I had no idea what condition it was in ,or how many pieces missing . If it turned out bad at least I new there was more than a $1000 worth of part I could sell off
I picked it up at night time after driving 1100 kls one way. They guy said ,do you want to check whats here ," no , lets just chuck every part in the ute .motor in the front thanks". It was pitch black outside so I hoped I left nothing behind .

2WA is right Gus - you are the equivalent of the American Pickers - maybe register the business name "The Two Wheeled Picker", the motto "I turn shit into sugar" I'm impressed!

Re: $1000 tl1000s project
DAY ONE
Sorted parts out around frame . Looks like I bought a streetfighter . Not a fan but lets put it together as it was bought .
The good . Brand new chain and sprockets ,new battery ,R1 yam shock ,Forks in mint condition . There is my $1000 already .
Every thing goes together nicely , r1 shock had not been fitted , took me a while to realise the spring had to be chucked .
Missing one long bolt .Get rid of the lemon colour on the forks .
I notice the rhs footpeg hanger is broken . I find a replacement that someone has bought . (strange)

Day 2
R1 shock gets removed . I can use that one a different bike .Standard rotary damper gets fitted .ng
Everything goes well , missing a "throttle body to air box rubber boot ".
Now I have to figure out how this gets wired in , the right way up might help to read it .

Re: $1000 tl1000s project
It had had a slide down the road .I think it had been pulled apart to tidy it all up . It had a new chain and sprocket (still in packet ) . I have also found a number o new parts to replace the worn ones .I'm hoping that's a good sign .
I just fitted the new chain ,put in into 6th and am about to try and turn the motor over buy rotating the rear wheel .
I decided to walk away for 5mins to get my head ready if it will not turn over . It had no spark plugs fitted . Why any one lets dam air in I have no idea .
I knew the lhs cover was missing but now I realise the stator is in that cover .Not great .

My Bandit's paintwork on the tank is a bit secondhand Gus, I just wonder what your technique is to bring it back and make it look so good.

Missed this when motor was out .
The cans show a bent link pipe .
I new the Lh cover was not in the deal but I forgot the stator was attached to it .

The good .
Only parts missing were 2 bolts .
Motor turns over by hand and has good compression .
Oil came out nice and clean .

Re: $1000 tl1000s project
i got it to a condition I thought it should start . For the next 5 hours I waited for "the vibe " and planets to align before I had the nerve to press THAT button .
I forgot to fix the fast idle lever (choke ) but the time had come . When I got the motor I put some oil in the spark plug holes in case things were stuck .
About second attempt I get a hint it wants to go . About 4th attempt it fires up and fills the shed with smoke from the oil in the chamber .
The 2 geese and 7 goslings which have bedded down for the night in the shed complain . I take pity on them and get worries I may gas them .
I turn it off ready for another go tomorrow .
Sand and paint tail section too late in the day and paint blushes to a matt . Hoping tomorrow is warm and I'll give it a light spray to get some shine .
Cut rhs exhaust link pipe half way through and bend it back to the right angle . Weld it back up , not well, but its hidden.

Re: $1000 tl1000s project
Only firing on rear cylinder . Removed fuel injectors to clean and one doesn't "click " with power supplied so it not opening .
Do I have to get one from Suzuki or are they an auto shop item ?

Re: $1000 tl1000s project
Howdy Gus,
As I understand it, injectors are just another form of solenoid.
If you compare the resistance of the good one to the suspect one and it is similar, it might just need a bit of a soak in penetrating oil.
I'm also told that Suzuki injectors are interchangeable with several Ford car parts.
I can find out more if you need.

Re: $1000 tl1000s project
I soaked it overnight ,still no good . Seeing as it wasn't working I decided to probe it .
The brass screen can be removed as I found out . This shows a hole going about 30mm into the injector .I placed a thin wire into it and gave it a clean .
Replaced screen and it started working . This is sounding very familiar .
