bandit 600 been sitting for 3 years
Hey everyone not sure if this is the right section for this but here goes... So I picked up my bandit yesterday and it has been sitting for 3 years. What things should I look for or pay special attention to?? ( I'll put more pics up as I get them)

Change all fluids, they absorb moisture over time, make sure brake calipers move freely, give all pivots and cables a good lube.Wrighty wrote:Hey everyone not sure if this is the right section for this but here goes... Check tyres for perishing/cracking etc
If it's been sitting that long I'd even be tempted to give it a 2nd oil change much sooner than normal

also, check inside the fuel tank for signs of rust, as this will eventually work its way into your fuel bowls, and clog your pilot jets.
New plugs. While the plugs are out, wouldn`t hurt to turn it over with the plugs are out, so that oil is getting pumped through the engine before it fires.
Carby may give you grief with dried O-rings and dried gunk through out the carb. Not saying it will, but it may end up needing a good clean

If she has been sitting for a long time. Take the plugs out. Spray some WD40 in each cylinder. Leave plugs out. Then put her in gear, 2nd maybe, and push her a little to move the engine internals. If she moves ok, you will not get any bib surprises when you push the start button. Cheers.

It's really easy if the tyres are a bit perished. All you need to do is get a copy of "Worlds Fastest Indian", & follow Burt Munro's lead. A good old coat of shoe polish will cover up any of those pesky cracks!Chook wrote:Wrighty wrote:Hey everyone not sure if this is the right section for this but here goes... Hey all. Little update. The bandit is running again. Just needs a service and new tires and in good to go. What spark plugs do I need and what tires do people recommend

Good to see you'r almost there.
Google should reveal what plugs to start with at least. Depending on what work has been done you may need to change them but go with OEM spec to start with.
Tyres are personal depending on a few factors. Probably no point in listing the usual suspects. Just work out how the bike will be used and go from there.

Great news ............agree with 2WA about the plugs , & if you type tyres in the search box just under the heading banner , there is a myriad of opinions to help with your tyre choice ( they are just as varied as which oil to use )

Re: bandit 600 been sitting for 3 years
hey everyone been a while since i have posted, but the bandits on the road and i have my licence .. feels good to be back on a bike after 5 years, still working out a few mechanical gremlins with the old she needed a new fuel tap , new battery and new plugs but is goin well, seems to run a litttle rough but i think the carbies need some more cleaning or a rebuild,

Great results come from a concerted effort.
Well done on sorting your bike.
Time to reap your rewards and enjoy riding her.

@Wrighty you should post up a ride in your area and see if some other bigger bandits can join you for it.
Sounds like a good reason to celebrate

Thanks all that helped. I'll try and get a ride sorted around my way soon.. Went to the wolombi tavern on easter Monday was a great ride about 150km good food too.. Next ride might head to the pie in the sky at Cowan NSW or maybe down to Windsor via the putty. Will post up more when I know
