Help - Bandit idling at 3000-6000 rpm tried everything to fix
First topic message reminder :
Hi all,
I am new to forum and have a 2008 GSF1250 Bandit, love the bike but recently went on a trip and after filling up bike on idle slowed and died.
Took to a dealer who cleaned out everything but was still idling rough at 900rpm not 1100 as normal.
Since then have checked everything now it only idles at 3000-6000 way too fast and is unrideable.
I put it into dealer mode and there are no detected problems -c000 code and all looks fine.
However if I disconnect the IAP sensor in dealer mode it runs as about expected at 1100rpm, connect the IAP sensor and back to way high revs.
Have wd40ed the connectors, compressed air the inlet on the IAP, checked all the vacuum hose for leaks, checked all the throttle bodies outlets and all clean.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I might try??????
Any help appreciated, spent $600 at the dealer and didn't even help so do not want to spend any more on a dealer.
With kind regards,
Scott

Yep, great result.
My suggestion would be complete the clean up (personal experience says the only effect carb cleaner has on alloy is to make it look cleaner than the alloy it doesn't get on. Brake cleaner can be substituted (but you may want to test it on your lounge first - to be sure like)
Oh - make sure the ignition is off for more than 5 seconds before you disconnect the ISC electricals again. (prolly should have mentioned that before, huh)
Then ,most importantly, get the balance done. Hopefully the air screws aren't moved too far out of range and the Morgan will get them matched up again. If you can't get a proper balance you'll have to pull the bodies and get a starting setting with feeler gauges under the throttle plates - but I've never had to do it, so I can't give tips.
If the balance goes well but idle is still slightly out , give it a little time to see if the ECU resets it correctly. If not, into a dealer for a manual reset.
If so it should be cheap, it only takes a couple of minutes to do.
Chris, get me that emoticon and it's free schooner shandies of light for you (if there was one I'd put it here - so have a green snail in the meantime )

#$%^ the %^%^n thing $%$^& $%@#@ the %^# in the@#@!# with @#@#3~#$# - woke up this morning turned the ignition did not change a thing and back to same old problem - I am absolutely baffled beyond belief and have no further reason why - nothing changed after perfect smooth start last night and this morning same shit with high revs.
Since then I have carbtuned all the throttle bodies balanced and still racing.
My only dying goddam wish is to figure out what the hell is going on and the only possible thing that I can think of is the piston in the ISC is an actuator but mine was fairly tight and no loose in fact a fair amount of friction to push in and out of the ISC inlet.
So my question IS - For those of you that have pulled it out should it be free moving, snug, loose, how much movement should there when you put the little piston back into the ISC assembly?

Gotta keep working step by step Scott.
The ISC could cause your original problem of idle at 900 instead of 1200 but cannot run it up to 3000- 6000.
Am I right in guessing that disconnecting the IAP got you an idle acceptable for the throttle balancing?

Take that you motherf#$er son of a b#$# @#@^ f%^k
*Problem fixed*
As you can tell by my verbosity this has really been pissing me off after trying literally everything and being charged $600 by a dealer for fixing nothing.
Problem was the idle control system actuator piston ever so marginally out because of gunk in the ICS valve inlet which meant a wrong pre-set. Even very small amounts of less than 1 mm out will throw everything out of alignment.
Sprayed CRC throttle body cleaner and cleaned out very back of the inlet with a rod and lint free linen and lots of gunk probably from last big trip came out and was preventing the spring loaded piston from travelling as far into the valve inlet as it should. Also used liqui moly fuel cleaner added to tank.
Took it for a test ride tonight, it is balanced, beautiful, tuned and now the computer has learned the correct idle and is a factory spec 1100rpm - she has never sounded better and under throttle is balanced and sings like a angel, sounds like a demon escaping a brass vessel and as before I reckon, will be smooth as sex on satin sheets at 192km/h ( on a closed non public road ).

Good to hear you found the problem early in the diagnosis.
Now you don't have to continue to dead IAP. throttle cables, throttle plate action, vacuum leaks, etc, and so on.
And most of all, we all got this

If they don't, go to your local consumer affairs, you've paid for something you didn't get until you did it yourself

Ironically and in other areas of life also I have learnt to trust yourself and your six sense and ignore the so called experts. Dealers are passionate about making money, owners are passionate about motorcycles. If you stuff it up yourself you have no one else to blame and if you do it yourself you can take care and do a good job - no one is going to look after and take care of your bike as much as you.

They will probably just say they weren't given the opportunity to rectify any problems before Scott fixed it himself.Chook wrote:2wheelsagain wrote:Well done.
