K&N air filter SU-6000 vs SU6505
As a useless bit of info, the K&N SU-6000 air filter fits the GSF1250. It has more filter surface than the recommended SU-6505, and is very similar to the BMC filter in terms of size. The 6000 is shown as a 1200 part.
Dale Walker's testing involved the SU-6000, which presumably flows a little more air. Would we notice? Probably not, but if you ever wanted to know if the 6000 fits, it does. Just bought one for USD$39 on EBay, and even with postage was about half of what I'd pay here in Godzone.
Trivia, but someone may be seeking the answer somewhere!

Yeah, It's been covered a couple of times on here. But probably in threads not titled so.
I think barry_mcki has some info/pic's?
Would be interesting read if DW has Wright up.

Re: K&N air filter SU-6000 vs SU6505
Not exactly sure why K&N produced a slightly different filter for the water cooled Bandits, but both the 6000 and 6505 fit and work the same, the extra bit of rubber (less filter area) on the 6505 doesn't seem to effect anything.
Dale Walker has stated use what ever is easiest to order in, here is something he wrote back in 2009 (link):
Not sure if there has been any more tests done, I think opening up the top of the filter lid essentially allows as much air in as the motor needs, and that this is easily handled by the slightly smaller 6505, the 6000 does it even easier.
I have the 6000 on mine, my reasoning (however flawed) is why put something on that appears to be more restrictive when there is an alternative at no extra price .

You'd think that at lest the filtering side things would be better.
Do you think that the bigger area on the 6000 would be to deal the higher RPM (MORE SUCK) of the 1200(1,157 cc) or would the 1250's extra 98cc (1255cc) but lower RPM even it out?

Re: K&N air filter SU-6000 vs SU6505
I would guess from the work that Dale Walker has done over in the States, that on a modified bike it makes no difference at all, especially with the modified air filter lid.
My thoughts are that with a standard bike, K&N found the slightly smaller filter area enabled better pollution control, either particle or possibely a slight intake noise reduction. The water cooled bikes would have to go through a more stringent set of pollution rules than their older siblings.
Only guessing as I haven't found anything so far that indicates why there was a change, and companies would not spend money re-tooling if their was no need, and it is usually to meet some new legislation change.
