Winter Touch Up Projects
I know most of us can ride all year round but I'm wondering what projects we have planned for our bikes during the time we may ride less and shorter distances?
My VTR will get;
My VFR will get;
I'll be buying a collection of ram and GoPro/Drift mounts to use on both bikes to bore you all shitless next summer
My VTR will get;
- New chain and sprockets (+1 on the rear)
- Wheel bearings
- Crash knobs
- Carby tear down and drill slides/other mods if plugs looking rich
- Frame clean up
- Pillion peg/exhaust hanger removal
- Drill & Tap for swing arm bobbins
- Rear fender chop
- Clear indicator lenses
My VFR will get;
- Pillion seat cowl
- Hydro dipped seat cowl (CF pattern)
- Hydro dipped bottom fairing (CF pattern)
- Ram mounts for nav/phone
- Extra clear film for paint protection
- New tyres (Roadsmarts 2)
- Possible DB screen
- Clutch/brake levers

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
I'll get my 24,000 k service done. I really can't ride at all during May-October. (I do work seasonally out of the area - completely no-go area for motorbikes) It'll sit, and maybe get started every few weeks when I make a quick one day visit.
The Suzi guy near here (1 hour - not that close has gone belly-up.) That's a good thing. He was dodgy. My regular mechanic (other bike) is OK with it.

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
The Bandit is coming up to its 72,000kms service so new plugs, oil, oil filter, maybe air filter. Possible throttle body balance (but it doesn't feel like it needs one). Valve clearance check. Clean the chain and check it and sprockets for condition. New bolt for ventura rack (one went missing somewhere on the last ride). And new tyres.
XS850: start-up and run it a few times up and down the driveway (that's a 750m round trip).
TRX850: Nothing really - it just got new plugs. I am thinking of a front end mod to remove the fairing - it looks much more modern without it.
Spyder: just the occasional run.

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
mmmm...
GEN 1
Dyno to make sure AF is right. I want it to be as clean and smooth as possible, No mods, Just AF. This is a must!!
New tyres, as the ones on it, are like wood, and scare the hell out of me.
Make a headlight protector, as it has a glass lens. Already got a chip, and glad it didn`t smash. May be, not sure, I have an 06 gsxr 600 headlight, that I`ll be putting projector HID`s in..depends on time, and how I can adapt to look nice, or I`ll scrap the idea, and leave standard. Can`t look out of place...
New wheel bearings, and service head set bearings.
Oil change.
GEN 2
Change exhaust system, and re-jet carby
Check valves
Bleed brakes again after fitting Brembo M/C
And then ride when the sun comes up, and goes down, and has charred the other side of the world, and come back again to greet us.

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
Bandit will just get ridden everyday. Just normal servicing.
VTR will get torn down for weight reduction, swingarm brace, flush mount indicators (if I can find them) etc But have a June track day on it.
KDX200 needs a fork seal and lots of trail riding.
Hyosung GT650 needs its hand shift finished, throttle finished then and set up for the June track day.
CBR600 needs its frame painted, motor finished then re-assembly. This one may not get finished this winter.

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
Finally get the front forks sorted out by someone that knows what they are doing. That's racetech gold valves and springs
... And as per nzspokes riding my Dr z in the bush with some mates. I need to get fit though, last ride nearly killed me

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
I'll do a bit more than #Tag, clean/lube chain, try and keep it clean and shiny. (That's bloody hard when it's a daily ride in winter though)

Nope, for that I intend to gird up my loins and go and lie in the corner of the shed quietly crying to myself.

Re: Winter Touch Up Projects
old thread..
Who actually got around to doing or finishing their list of things to do?
After going back over my list, I got about 80% done, so I`m happy with that.

I'm at about 80% also.
Tax cheque is coming so that should knock off another 10% but the list keeps growing
