Touch up my rim
I'm having trouble getting the touch up paint for the black rims on my bandit.
The paint code from Suzuki is ''019 Space Black''.
But the paint suppliers can't fined the code in there books.
i like the black rims so going polished is no go.
does any one know a way around this?

Re: Touch up my rim
I was hoping to just do the touch up, but colorrite dont ship to oz.
And if i get it powdercoated can they get it the same colour.
For a couple of small scratchs its starting to become a big pain

Re: Touch up my rim
Found this place in US but recon you won't be able to get the paint thru the mail.
What about taking a sample (if you can get one) to bunnings or similar as they seam to be able to match paint pretty well.
Yes it is a serious suggestion

Thanks mate but ColourRite dont ship to oz.
Hey reardo, did i forget to mention...
Hey mate,
how big are the scratches, by this i mean are they wide and long or faint and short.
In regards to matching the black, you should be able to go to the likes of a Repco/Auto-one type store that retails Automotive paint.
If they cannot find your code, they should have a chart/index for "Australian Standard" colours. Get them to find a black, there may only be one, and get them to mix/match the smallest amount, say 250mls.
They should have a paint system that caters for both 2-Pack and what used to be the Acrylic type paints.
Get the black made up in 2-Pack, but make sure it is in "Solid" and not basecoat, or C-O-B (clear over base).
Then you will need to have the smallest amount of 2-Pack hardener, probably 500mls. But get the hardener for 2-pack primer as this should be cheaper and is fine for touch-ups.
Pour a small amount of Colour, say 50mls, and less of the hardener (10 to 1 ratio o.k.) into a little jar/lid and mix/stir for a bit.
Using a fine paint/model brush and making sure the surface is clean with a wipe of either wax and grease remover/turps/thinners, brush on the paint.
The size of the scratch will determine how much to have on the brush and it may mean a couple of coats if the scratch is deep.
Acrylic thinners (sold in 1litre cans) would be ok for brush clean-up.
Any other questions, don't hesitate, I enjoy sharing my Automotive repair industry knowledge. Goes for any one else reading this too guys.

Found this info on Max Zuk but i think he is talking about the black paint on the disk carrier not the rim. wouldn't hurt to take a look into it tho.

I poked the septics once to often and got banned from Max Zuk a couple of years ago but I should try to reregister and give them curry again. Never seen a bigger bunch of winging sooks but the info was good.
Now surely the larger Suzuki dealers can help. After all what happens to crash damage requiring repainting?

Re: Touch up my rim
^^ I would say get the gloss and keep it if there's a need later (fingers crossed you wont need it)
Re: Touch up my rim
I still cant believe that you cant get it matched locally! Any good paint shop should be able to do it, failing that, any automotive spraypainter should.

Usually the dealer's just send the parts away to their professional painter. The painter colour matches it and does the repair. They don't rely on getting the paint codes.

Paint quandries
Hey Reardo,
Yeah, get the gloss. the paint would usually dry flat, as a base-coat. Not that you would notice terribly on a rim but having the clear-coat over it just means you have a little more material on the scratch and it would look better because "we all" notice these things.
Thankfully my beloved partner doesn't think i am Obsessive-Compulsive-Disorder, but it is good to try and do things right (after you wash your hands six times..then use a hanky to open the handle of the shed door..then go to the toolbox...wipe down the drawer handle six times....and pick out the appropriate screwdriver (yes that's right, wipe it six times)...out of the line of screwdrivers that are arranged longest to shortest.......
Regards,
the neat freak.....jeez, this keyboard is filthy.......
