Grease Gun
I have a Kmart special grease gun, must be 36 years old. It is haemorrhaging so it's time to replace, I know there are lots of mechanics here, home and professional...
what do you recommend for occasional use?
What type cartridge, bulk or something else I mightn't have head of??
Thanks guys.

Re: Grease Gun
personally I'd go cartridge with a flexible nozzle. Just make sure you can operate the pump one handed if that's the way you go because you'll have to hold the nozzle on the nipple with the other hand.
Re: Grease Gun
I have a macnaught that I use at home. It's probably a bit much for home use but I've got it and it works so it's staying.
If your going to get a new gun, and it's only for around the house/shed stuff look for something that will take carts or bulk (I prefer bulk but that's me). Also look for a gun that is one handed operation and as small as practical for your intended use, remember you won't be greasing a grader every other day (I remember one that I used to work on that had over 150 grease nipples - air guns are you friend here) and if the gun sits around unused for ages or if it takes a long time to use the grease that is in the gun, the grease can go off and need replacing so extra cost and waste for no benefit.
I prefer metal guns for longevity and less breakages when they get dropped. I also prefer hoses between the gun and the end fitting as opposed to solid metal tubes as it makes the gun more flexible when it comes to where you can use it.
Consider getting yourself a gun accessory kit if you need it so you have heaps of options for hoses, fittings etc because you will undoubtedly find that the hose/fitting that comes with the gun will not suit that one little bastard of a nipple due to angle, placing, something in the way, etc.

Re: Grease Gun
My cartridge Gun is also a Macaught, it'd be 20 years old and still works as good as the day I got it
Re: Grease Gun
Thanks for the input guys, I'll have to have a look at what's available and keep all this good advice in mind. Sounds like I want one that operates with one hand and not too big in capacity.
Cheers
