Appendectomy - Recovery time
First topic message reminder :
On Wednesday my wife rushed me through to emergency at 8pm after I had a bad gut ache since lunch time that day. I initially thought it may have been something I ate or maybe I was a bit backed up. I got admitted straight away and the appendix ripped out lunchtime Thursday. I can't stand hospotals for long and I hate needles, so I managed to get out of there 9am Friday as I wasn't using any pain meds. Weird thing is that I packed on over 3Kgs from my normal 85Kgs. I've felt pretty bloated and only today is my weight starting to normalise and I am feeling a little less bloated. For those that have had your appendix ripped out, how long was the recovery process? I can't pick up anything heavy and my 4 year old son just wants to play with Dad at home. My lovely wife has been loking after me and telling me off for moving about too much. I'm getting sick of the commonwealth games coverage and there's no motorsport on this weekend
I might head out the shed and see if there is something to do which doesn't include lifting anything. One of my saws needs a clean and sharpen

So by all of you that have suffered this demon, what have the doctors said is the cause of it?
Random bad luck or what?
As I stated previously, its seems more common than I realized. The sparky at works wife had a burst appendix on the weekend, and is in a bad way.
It seems to be haunting a lot of people.

I can safely say its not from drinking beer cause I got mine out at 15 and even though I'm originally from Frankston, even I wasn't a piss head that early on.

According to the Interwebby thing, experts believe there are two likely causes:
The appendix is on the right side of the abdomen, connected to the colon
Face it Reddog, you were done in by the poo.
The appendix is on the right side of the abdomen, connected to the colon
- Infection - a stomach infection may have found its way to the appendix.
- Obstruction - a hard piece of stool may have got trapped in the appendix. The bacteria in the trapped stool may then have infected the appendix.

Most people I know that have had it removed had it done when they were under 20. It's not beer because it would've happened much earlier. In saying that I'm drinking a nice cold coopers pale ale and I feel shitloads better. I think the hospital should offer stout after an operation, Apparently it's good for your iron levels.
Sorry about the thread hi jack, got carried away by the thought of Peters neopolitan icecream and milo on top
