Painted or polished engine on 2008 Suzuki Bandit 1250 S
Hi all
I'm new here but have got so much out of this Forum already.
I dropped my bike a couple of weeks ago and have some scratches on the left hand side engine cover (generator side I think it is).
I want to polish out but can't tell if the engine is painted silver as standard from factory or polished alloy. Is anyone able to tell me. It looks painted to be honest. In which case I'd have to strip off the paint, polish out and then repaint. Does Suzuki sell such a paint?
Has anyone else had to polish out similar scratches?
Thanks all in advance.

It is painted. Speak to Gus he has used rattle cans before on the engine cases with good success

Yes I have . Its paint , removed with paint stripper .Easiest way is to remove paint , sand out marks with a coarse paper (100 grit ) then grades down to 240 and paint silver . A small bright silver rattle can works well .I use one called "lightning strike " colour .Auto acrylic
I did polish that cover but a pain to keep it looking good s0 I painted it silver again .

Nice polish job Gazaar. Those indicators spoil the look of the bike though. I will have to take a side on pic of mine with the Rizoma Track 77s to show you the difference. Bike is identical silver too

How did you find the Stinko tyres, Gazzar?
I've just fitted a set to Jewel and am pretty impressed so far.

That polished alloy looks fantastic. I'll aspire to that later on.
In the meantime I'll try and polish out the marks and spray paint.
Some questions:
Can I take the left hand engine cover off without draining the oil? I don't want to polish out and spray in situ.
And where would I get a can of spray from - somewhere like Super Cheap Auto ??
Do I need to use heat resistant spray? I read somewhere that I don't have to as normal paint will cope.
Ta

If you take the cover off you will lose oil.
I touched mine up in situ
You wont need high temp paint
Duplicolor paints can be bought at super cheap, bursons, repco etc

Rest bike against wall slightly more angle than side stand would allow the other way.End of bar only will be fine , oil will stay in sump .Personally I'd leave it in place and sand and paint it attached .
Sealed wheel with what?
How about a " how to polish the centre of a wheel " thread ?

Yes. Standard wheels with the casting marks ground off. Then some serious wet and dry work, by Gazzar.
Awesome results. Time consuming, but very therapeutic by all accounts, if you're the patient type.
It's worth looking up Gazzars posts and following his polishing exploits. Quite amazing.
Once he had the bike to a level where you needed sunblock just to be in the vicinity, he up and traded it on a bumble bee.
