Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
Now that I have nearly got my full eyesight back ( 2nd op' on Wednesday week ), it opens up a whole new lot of options as to what eye protection will I use . I have had to wear glasses for long vision for most of my adult life but now that I have the new lenses with the correction built in I can throw them away. So who finds what best ? Sunnies with a clear visor ? No sunnies and tinted visor ? Both ? I have several visors, so I will experiment. I also have a UV blocker installed in my helmet. It is a 20-25mm plastic strip fitted between the liner and the shell at the top inside of the visor. Was designed by a couple of german doctors who were on a motorbike holiday in Australia and thought that something was needed to block the harsh UV rays that we have here. It does work. And I don't do any night riding.

Transition lenses in my glasses ( Tri Focals ) / helmet 1..... tinted visor in summer / clear in winter / & I have a flip down visor in my other helmet (both HJC helmets ) ............take your pick
I believe you can now get transition lenses in normal plain glass lenses if you want )

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
I have always put sunnies on under a clear visor Hammy. Only because when I get to my local cafe to drink my Honey Chai Latte on Skinny Soy, I can remove my lid and put my sunnies back on and look chic. Sunnies are a pain to carry on your person if you have a tinted visor IMHO.

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
I use 2 visors........clear and tinted. The shoei has a quick change system, so about 10-15 seconds to swap over. The helmet padding needs "modifying" to fit my sunglasses. I carry the sunnies in my tank bag!

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
They are the same as bi-focals but with an extra section ground above the reading one for intermediate (work bench distance ) ...................I found the reading section in the all in one multi focal type of lenses was getting too small the stronger the lenses were getting . these are great when you get used to them ..........................not 3d though , but I'm hoping they will come up with xray one day

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
My eyes are try focals, I try to focus but to no avail.
I use multi-focal glasses.
I'm really enjoying my new Shark helmet with the flip down tinted inner-visor, I have added a black strip at the top of the tinted section to block out everything above the top of my glasses, this is very helpful when riding into the sun.
BTW the Shark Vision R helmet comes with a small removable section for thick glasses frames. They are a well thought out design, I like the added lateral field of view but the vertical is a bit unnecessary, on a bike with an upright riding position, at least.
Whereas the old RJays helmet had a lot of high pitched wind noise the new helmet seems a bit drummy if that's a word.

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
My Shoei has tinted visor, love it, but i carry the clear in the bag, just in case I'm out too long.
I have tried wearing sunnies under clear visor, but the sunnies didnt always block out the bright sunlight, so I'd get
a glare now and then, whereas the tinted, no bright light to make me squint! Also, with tinted, you dont have to fight to get the
sunnies off before taking off the helmet, like hubby does

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
Polarising sunnies for me.
I leave early and home late so tinted visor isn't much good for me.
I have one but don't use it much. It always looks like it's about to rain with the dark tint

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
Sunnies and clear visor for me with some black tape across the top of the visor to block out the sun above the glasses.

The only problem with them is they aren't quite dark enough & you still get a burnt nosemadmax wrote:Time for a new helmet Hammy, Anything with a built in tinted visor, its the way to go...

I rocka breath guard all the time so no burnt nose. Being a Ranga I get burnt with 10 minutes of sun. I normally use polarised glasses, but still carry clear and tinted visor to allow a quick change depending on weather conditions. Some glasses however give me a headache with my Shark helmet, so be sure to choose a helmet which accommodates glasses.

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
I wouldn't wear polarising glasses under a clear visor. Rainbow effect. I'm not in the market for a new lid. My Arai Corsair V is just fine. Jan has got a Shark with the flip down visor and she too sez it could be darker. After years of having to wear specs it will seem a bit strange for a while. Like I've forgotten something .reddog wrote:I rocka breath guard all the time so no burnt nose. Being a Ranga I get burnt with 10 minutes of sun. Your right they do need to be darker, I've been hoping for an aftermarket visor in a darker tint. None found so far.

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
Is it possible to put a piece of car window tint on the flip down visor ? You can get that type of tint in various grades, I've even seen one that is graduated from dark to light for the top of the windscreen.madmax wrote:Your right they do need to be darker, I've been hoping for an aftermarket visor in a darker tint. Or better still, if you can get the flip down part out of the helmet there is also the VHT type window tint spray. Apply a couple of layers with more to the top section to make it darker.
Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
I've been thinking about the car tint film on it. You can get a roll quite cheaply on Ebay. Only thing is I'm not sure how well it would stick to plastic.barry_mcki wrote:Is it possible to put a piece of car window tint on the flip down visor ? The tint spray is usually used for tinting tail lights, not sure how optically correct it would be once spray onto a visor

Re: Sunnies or Tinted Visor ?
I have used a section from an old x-ray for this purpose. Choose whichever tint you need from an old x-ray and cut it to the depth you want - it will push up into the gap between the shell and the liner.Re-Cycled wrote:

I have just ordered one of these. It comes complete with internal visor which is great as I now have to wear glasses and and no more Phaff changing visors.
