Gday from Port Lincoln SA
Hello fellow Bandit lovers
It's great to see an Aussie forum on the most under rated bike on the planet. I have a 2008 GSF1250S with 4000km on the clock. So far I have replaced the rainwater tank with a Yoshi R77 from the US. ($460.00 landed at my home address) and it sounds sweet as well as being much lighter. I know its not a sports bike but have been to Mallala for a ride day on 2 occasions. Helped my confidence on a road bike and also noticed that i picked up 15kmh over the same short straight compared to the original muffler. No other mods. Rear tyres was knackered at 2800km. Now replaced F and R with Michelin Road Pilot 2s. Handles better and much better wear. Got them from GC motorcycles / tyres at Blair Athol. $480.00 the pair, fitted and balanced. Been in dirt bikes since I was 8 and am now 46. Love to hear about other owners, modifications and useful tips
Regards from the Banditman

Welcome to Bandits and to the forum Banditman. Interesting about your change of tyres. Lots of riders on this forum have reported improved handling by using a new tyre brand so I'll remember about the Pilots when its my turn.
Cheers,
Nicko

Re: Gday from Port Lincoln SA
Another welcome Are there lots of good rides to be had around Port Lincoln? 2500 km out of the original tyres ... perhaps you ride it like a sportsbike?! Did you ride over to Mallala for the track days? That would be a real test of the all-round nature of a Bandit.
You will recognise me on the road because I believe I am the only Bandit in the State - possibly Australia, that has the original 'Kenworth' exhaust!
I was up at Mallala the other day, but I got no further than the gate - this time.
Nice road down to Gawler too:
And then to the natural end point of all my rides:
(I have to say that in the carpark, an Asian dad with his children in the four wheel drive in the picture, spent about 10 minutes telling me how much he liked the Bandit and asking about it. He was really impressed!)

Re Port Lincoln
The roads over here are relatively boring and straight. The local Ulysses group is fairly active but always have rides on days that i am not available. (shift worker) I strongly recommend mallala ride days with the best ones run by the Cafe Racers Club. It costs about $130.00 per day and this gives you about 6 x 20 minute sessions on the track. You are put into one of four groups (you self assess which one) so that you are riding with similarly skilled riders.
Getting out on the track reduces the risk of the "Red mist descending" back out on the road and getting pinged by the constabulary!!
I didn't think much of the original tyres with their poor wear ( I reckon my Michelin S12 knobblies on the XR 600 are just as good!!) but the Michelins Pilot Road 2s are great. On the track, I reduce pressures to about 30 pound each end (thanks to a road racing mate's advice) and they stick to the tar very well.
The original rainwater tank on the bike is quiet but it does strangle the bike. I am sure other members on the forum would have some other go faster ideas Remember- Too much power is still not enough! (old jungle saying!) catch you on the road or track sometime

Re: Gday from Port Lincoln SA
I had to laugh, tacking "old jungle saying" onto the end of my "sage" advice is something I've been doing for years (30?) thought I was the only one. Kids think I'm strange, I tell them I work at it.
I don't like long straight roads, I'm afraid I'll get bored and do something naughty ("give me warp factor 5")
