Now the pipe as well
A little while ago we where talking about the stain that appears on the cat.
After much polishing almost every weekend, it keeps coming back. Not such a big problem, i can live with that.
But about a month ago it is growing into the staintune as well. Small little brown dots all over it. When it first started they came out with very fine steel wool and metal polish. But now they dont disapear so easily. And the only way i can get rid of it is scrubbing a little harder which scatches the pipe.
Im going to contact staintune about the issue and see what the response it. I can understand why the cat suffers from this problem from the reasons ive been given. But i dont see how an aftermarket pipe would do the same thing, considering its less that a year old.

Staintune will want to know what you've been ploishing it with and if you havent been using their product they wont want to know about it going on a mates past experience.
My replacement cat/header is now marking but it took a lot longer to come through on the replacement system. I can live with it now (headers are fine its just the cat)

Re: Now the pipe as well
They got back to me within a few hours, so cant complain with that.
And this is what they said:
The stains you are talking about are caused by an external contaminant.Probably iron from brake dust thrown up off the road. When it gets wet itrusts and embeds itself in the surface of the stainless muffler.I have attached some information on rust contaminating the surface ofstainless steel.
Most people remove it by using a mechanical polisher (eg,angle grinder ordrill with polishing disc) and a heavy polish. You could also try a commercial rust remover from a hardware store.

Re: Now the pipe as well
Ive had Staintunes on my last 6 bikes (excluding the Bandit - Yoshi) and have never seen that sort of stain on any of them. That includes a Varadero and Vstrom that was taken off road a fair bit and got lots off mud and shit. I wonder if Staintune are using a lesser grade of Stainless that may be letting the road grime in. Though they would never admit it.

Yeah ive never seen it on any staintune ive ever seen either.
I will keep with the polishing and see how it goes. But like i said before, the only way i can get it off is with very fine steel wool which leave scratches. Most of which i cant get out. See how i go...might end up putting a yoshi or somthing on. Because i no that if i cant get it back perfect i wont be happy with it
Im still not very happy with the response i got. I dont see how they can be using the highest quality materials if a brand new muffler can end up like this.

Cameron if you ever get up this way I will re-polish it; I used to work for Staintune.

I'm glad you got a response mate but I'm not surprised at the blame everything else line they took.
