HELP - Not starting Empty HELP - Not starting

Post  Vellies Sun 16 Sep 2012, 11:45 am

Washed my bike last night (GSX1250FA), tried to start it this morning, and nothing. Goes through the tarting sequence, and everything looks fine, except:
1. The fuel pump does not come on
2. The Chec sign appears
3. Gear indicator have a dash rather than number.

Any ideas of what I can do. The troulesjooting section of the manual is useless.

My vote is for the red "prepare for take off" switch

Then I'll move onto the "it's in gear with the stand down mate" or third the stand switch is causing grief.

Clutch switch IIRC won't give any indication except for not starting, ie press the starter and nothing happpens but all looks normal

HELP - Not starting Empty Help... said it many times myself

Yes, its a fact, we have all done the ol' Kill Switch trick once or twice... my last effort was only a few hours ago.
Easy to do, easy to fix *sigh*....
I hope that was your only problem!

Kill switch can be a bastard if you squirted water near it.

Same happened to me immediately after I had done my first TPS adjust and throttle body balance. Bike wouldn't start. Cacked myself for a few seconds.

Same as Coasting, I always use the key, one time wouldn't start, started getting all flustered & cursing etc, then found the kill switch had been bumped! Very Happy

I think we all dread this scenario. That damn kill switch (why it remains on road bikes in this day and age is beyond me - cars don't have an equivalent) is so innocuous that we forget it's there. It only gets used by ??? (1 in a xx road bike users - different for off-roaders for sure, and no problems there). If it has to remain, surely it is a simple matter for the now common LCD display (or a light) to warn you that it is in the off position (like a pc warns you when caps lock is on). cheers
