Electrical Question Empty Electrical Question

Post  Kaupy1962 Sun 12 Aug 2012, 6:48 pm

Okay I know it's not Suzuki. But I took the youngest son down to Lilydale yesterday to pick up a Hyosung GT650r. It's was in perfect condition, has 10,00ks on it, ran like a swiss watch. We got to Yarra Glen to top it up with fuel and after refuelling it won't start. I popped the seat to check the terminals in case one was loose and found the battery with the positive terminal touching the frame. After rerouting the cable I push started it and we rode to Wangaratta. I noticed the headlight going from bright white to yellow every now and then. Today I checked the phases on the Stator coil and found it is shorted to earth even though a running test shows 80Volts ac from each phase. The regulator is shot. Now for the biggy. I can rewind the alternator but where can I get an aftermarket regulator /Rectifier that's not going to send me broke as he spent his last penny buying the bike? any clues. Sorry for the long post.

Mate if its a pre EFI Hyo they were known for their ability to replicate Italian electrics.
I think you'll find aftermarket electrical parts fairly easily to find.

There will be Hyo forums on the net.
I actually like the GT650R

Pulled the alternator out today. One phase is shot so I'll rewind it. Looks like I'll have to get an OEM Reg/Rect From Korea. $98 shipped is the best I can do.

I finished rewinding the alternator stator today. I think if I had to do it again, I'll use Glyptol. The varnish I had to use was bloody messy and it doesn't come off your fingers!
