Different bars
I have the faired GSF1250SA, and also have a set of V Strom DL1000 hand guards. I had them fitted for a while and they touch the fairing at full lock. It's not an issue for riding, and the bars can be locked, but what worries me is that any tipover will smash the hand guard into the fairing and do a lot more damage.
Barbacks that go up and back would work, but being the ABS model, there's not enough upper brake line and I don't want to go to the hassle of replacing that.
Rotating the stock bars slightly backwards traps the hand between bar and tank.
Has anyone any recommendations on a bar that is slightly higher and further back that won't require me to replace my top brake line? Only a couple of cm will allow the hand guards to clear.
Cheers

Different bars
what if you spacered up your bars & then tilted them back a bit

of course. That sounds simple and Ross' post covered what he did, so I will try that. Only a couple of cm will do it. Will get some stainless bolts and washers today and post up the results.
Don't know why I didn't think of what is such an obvious solution. Thanks Paul

Re: Different bars
I managed to space the bars up about 2.5 cm, by using thick stainless washers and some 75mm M10 bolts. The bolt that goes through the bottom bar clamps is an M10, fine thread, and has an unusual 14mm head. I could not find anything in M10 with anything less than a 16mm head, which is a pain as the head of the bolt is captive and needs to fit. Some time with a grinder on the bolt heads got them fitting nicely.
The washer stacks look stock and the higher bar position is good. Unfortunately I have run out of front brake hose length and can't get the bars back enough to get clearance for the V-Strom hand guards. I'll get an extension made.
